Probably not.
They don't have elite players just really good college players.

Indiana had the number two defense in the nation last year.

Tough to say - 2019 LSU was a gem. But I could see Indiana being able to move the ball and potentially make enough stops to make a game or maybe win. Also, if it came down to coaching and in-game decisions Cignetti would smoke Ed O., so that wouldn’t be good. I still say it’s a crapshoot and it would be a hell of a litmus test for both squads if time travel existed. One thing I do know is that 2019 Arkansas does not belong in this conversation.

Ed O
Dave Aranda
Joe Brady
Corey Raymond
Ensminger
and 14 2020 NFL draft picks would like a word

In all seriousness to the actual question posed, I would say no.
Nothing against Indiana this year, they were a great team; however, I don’t think we’re ever going to see teams as great offensively as LSU 2019 and Alabama 2020 or as great defensively as the 2011 versions of both squads. There isn’t the level of cohesiveness coupled with that level of talent anymore. You can’t get two-deep with 4* and 5*; those backups are taking NIL money somewhere else.
Predictive models against past teams is hard because you have to compare them against the teams they played and Indiana’s total schedule, expanded playoffs included, wasn’t as hard as LSU’s in 2019 because Indiana didn’t have to face any teams with the huge talent pools and cohesiveness like LSU did multiple times.

[Seems reasonable. Average age of indianas starters would have been like 4 years older than LSU’s.]
Wasn't Burrows a year older than Mendoza?

Miami had superior talent and played more inspired against Indiana but that wasn't enough.
Indiana had better composure and had zero turnovers in the playoffs.
Miami made one mistake and lost.

The road to the title game for Indiana was pretty tough.
Ohio State
Alabama
Oregon
Miami
All of them except Oregon had more talent.

Sure, but I can think of several teams that would’ve gone through Indiana’s schedule without even being challenged:
2011 Alabama
2011 LSU
2012 Alabama
2012 Georgia
2019 LSU
2020 Alabama
2021 Georgia
Just to name a few.
Once again, this is nothing against Indiana. I’m not trying to make light of their accomplishments; rather just acknowledging that college football in 2025 was just not at the level it had been before. 2019 LSU would not be limited to 31 points against Indiana; they not only had a talent advantage but they also had all played together for (by end of season) two full seasons. No massive amount of transfers, no NIL distractions.
Maybe Indiana scores 35, but I would guess LSU scores over 50.

Most of your post was comparing offense to offense, and I agree - 2019 LSU offense was better than 2025 Indiana offense. Now compare the defenses.

For the record, I'm not saying 2025 Indiana would be 2019 LSU. I think it would be a good game and could go either way. I'm just not delusional enough to make braindead comments like this:
quote:
Burrow, Chase, Jets and Marshall wouldve gone apeshit on that secondary. Indiana wouldn’t hold that offense under 50. It’s a ridiculous argument to make with 2025 Indiana.
quote:
No. I have eyes.
LSU had 14 draft picks on that team. 12 in the first 4 rounds.
Indiana had 8 draft picks. 5 in the first 4 rounds.
They had ONE CB drafted. Burrow would've thrown for 500yds on that secondary. There isn't a single statistic or analysis that would justify a claim that Indiana would stop LSU's offense.
quote:
Anyone who thinks Indiana could beat 2019 LSU should never be taken seriously on any topic of football ever again…
quote:
They would fricking smoke 2019 LSU
quote:
Agree by end of 2019 season LSU couldnt be stopped. That LSU team would have beat any team in college football history. Burrow and Wr's were unstoppable and defense was actually playing really well. That LSU team easily beats Indiana.

2019 LSU was so lucky the worst referees in the history if CFB showed up to the Clemson Ohio State game.
Of course, if your team was good enough to not worry about the officials, you wouldn't have to make this statement.
LSU fans don't.
