By far Georgia
You could not pay me enough to live in that state, and they have tried.
Atlanta is just a bigger Jackson, Mississippi without the civility

Mississippi. Louisiana would be the worst without them.
Thank God for Mississippi
You all continue to take the bait and we in Mississippi are thankful that you do.
MS is actually the best State to live in but we don’t anybody moving here to mess it up. So our strategy is still working. Thank you!!!!

Savannah is far better than anything Alabama has to offer as well. So is the St. Simons / Sea Island area. I think three different cities / areas is enough to justify claiming one state better than the other. Especially when you consider the percentage of the population that lives in Atlanta, Savannah, etc.
Nothing like Huntsville in GA. Fairhope Gulf Shore and OB is much nicer than the GA Coast. Savannah is nice along the River, but Mobile has its nicer areas. Birmingham is nicer than the rest of GA and Montgomery and Columbus is a wash.

It’s a wash between Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama.

My own ranking from best to worst.... (SEC southern states only, so Virginia and NC are not included)
1.Texas (could be it’s own nation, and my fall back plan when the nation splits up)
2. Florida (yeah, it’s home of Florida man, but the weather down south is always nice, and, hey, Disneyworld!)
3. South Carolina (A little home bias, maybe, but the coast is awesome, historic Charleston is great and the foothills are beautiful. It’s a shame you guys only visit the armpit of S.C., Columbia)
4. Kentucky (Beautiful state, but no coast)
5. Louisiana (unique culture and great food gain points, but above average redneck tendencies and crime in the Big O weight it down a bit)
6. Georgia (Savannah, Augusta, the foothills are big pluses, the sea islands match SC’s. But Atlanta drags down the score heavily and 2/3 of the state is just hot, clay filled redneck territory)
7. Tennessee (Mountains and rivers/lakes big pluses, and they do have a nicer variety of redneck than the states to the south, but no coast. Memphis has the good and the bad, so can’t really help the score)
8. Alabama (great bass fishing. The Q is decent. Not much to look at, and the coast barely exists. High redneck index, but at least most of the rednecks are educated. And, hey, without Auburn what would Clemson even look like?)
9. Mississippi (again, not much coast, and very high redneck index, but in this case the rednecks are not educated. Appealing gentile southern higher crust with pretty ladies, but that’s about the highlight here.)
10. Arkansas (great for duck hunting and Ozark timeshares. I hate duck and timeshares)
11. Missouri (not sure this state even counts for southern. The best thing going for it is that 2 of the great rivers run though it. Then they run away from it, which we all should do.)

Georgia has hillbillies in the north, about 3 million liberal douchbags in the middle and the typical southern nascar fan in the south. Without Savannah and SSI, Georgia would be a runaway winner for the worst state in the south.

What defines worst? Is it all around? I do know that Louisiana is the poorest with 20.8% poverty rate and Mississippi is right under that with 19.7 % poverty rate.

It may not be a big coast, but it is an extremely popular one.
