I've lived from Bear through Saban, and I'd give this to Dubose. As bad as he was, he somehow won an SEC championship and defeated Spurrier twice in the same season. However, his fall was so precipitous that his next coaching gig was at the high school level at 2A Luverne (his record there was actually pretty good). A Mike Dubose movie needs to be made.

An argument could be made for Mike Price, but I'll give him a pass since he never coached an actual game.

Off of the top of my head, I'd pick Goff, Hallman, Zook, Dooley, and Chizik. It's kind of crazy to think that Chizik is the worst since he is the only Auburn coach (during my lifetime) with a national title. Is this a testament to the quality of Auburn's program (even a bad coach can win a title) or to just how awesome Cam was (spinoff thread: which coaches in SEC history would not have won a title with Cam)?

Sidenote: every Bama fan thought we were about to wreck shite in 2000. Freddie Milons returned the first punt against UCLA for a TD and we were on top of the world. Then everything fell apart. Somehow, in the midst of a 3-8 season, we defeated Ole Miss 45-7 that season. The 9-0 loss to Auburn that year was the worst game I've ever attended.

Edit: Dubose's next gig was an 0-10 season at Northview High in Dothan before achieving some success at Luverne

There are so many to choose from…

Probably Croom. Nothing like that 3-2 game. And remember the Maine.

Didn't become a bama fan until 98 all but Saban have been pretty awful in their own way, except for price... He was legendary.

Gene Chizik.

I think we're still feeling the ramifications of his program today. Though it may be more of a Jay Jacobs issue.

Nutt was tough to live through with everyone telling us what a great coach we had.

Better than anything you've had since...

Besides "SMILE" of course.

Mike Archer. Couldn't recruit. The six year drought began his third year in '89. He's not a bad DC but he's never been a HC since we fired him. Hallman and Stoval weren't good coaches but they could recruit. Hallman inherited an empty cupboard.
