Please don't play the kid goes to Starkville High and he owns a home in Starkville angle.

Mullen will be a factor in the West at Miss St if Saban ever leaves.

Mullen could be a lifer in Starkville for sure.

Maybe he truly doesn't want a pressure cooker job where it's playoffs or bust like Florida or Tenn seem to think.

I've worked at LSU, and honestly, you couldn't! But keep beating your chest like LSU is 10X better than State. It's that syndrome that every LSU fan suffers from and why your program lets you down every single year.

At MSU, Dan has TOTAL Control of 'his' football program. He likes both the AD and President he 'works' for.

But, most of all .. Megan Mullen likes where they are.

“There is nothing like being a Mississippi State Bulldog,” she said. “The support of fans here is so unlike anything anywhere else. It’s unbelievable. I’ve never experienced a really bad situation. The former school we were at, won two national championships there, won practically every game we played for four years there.

“It wasn’t if you won or lost. If we didn’t score 43 points or more, I was going to the grocery store in Orlando where I worked with the Golf Channel and I was driving the groceries back to Gainesville because it was that bad.”

Talking about honest, LSU will be a 8 or 9 win team for quite awhile. It's been a decline since 21-0. This weekend was a prime example. The LSU program went from competing for championships to keeping it close. Welcome to the middle of the pack.

Some folks just don't nor ever will get it, they just love front runners.

Nobody is going to offer Mullen more than he is making now to move. He will either go to FL for even money/pay cut (as their third choice) or he will stay.

He could always wait for Saban to retire then go for the Bama job, win his title with Saban's leftover players, and put it on cruise control from that point forward.

Slowly pulling away from Ole Miss

I think you meant, slowly turning in Ole Miss for recruiting violations. If you call going 5-7 last year and beating a team that had given up on the year pulling away, I can’t help you. The only thing that saved Mullen was the NCAA.

quote: There is another line of thinking on that front as well though. Maybe Dan is the type of coach that doesn't want to go where it's been done before...where it would be almost immediately expected again. Maybe he is the type of coach that wants to do it where it's never been done. He may want to leave his legacy at a place where it will live forever (similar to Steve Spurrier). If he ever won the SEC at state, even once, he would be a legend forever. And he has worked hard, toiled, and sweat to build State into a respectable program that may just climb that hill. I wouldn't just discount the fact that he is not a competitive coach just because he stays at State. If anything, he is carving his own way despite the disadvantages.

thank you. Somebody gets it. What's the fun, where it's been done. Mullen will have statues and buildings named after him, if he continues to build. He hasn't plateaued yet. Next years team is shaping to be the best yet, ever on paper. He has QB's lined up for the 18 & 19 class. And of course y'all know who Keytaon Thompson already is. The future looks brighter than ever and he knows it. This isn't your grand daddy's it even daddy's Bulldogs anymore. Yeah Tigers, we've beat you twice also in 4 years. Could have easily been 4/4. I understand why you want him to leave though, so you can that automatic W like in the 90's,00's.

Agree with both of you.

There is something to be said for leading a program to new success and continuing it for a long time without winning a national championship.

Who had the better college coaching career? Beamer at VaTech or Chizik at Auburn? Bill Snyder at Kansas State or Larry Coker at Miami?

Dan Mullen is the second most tenured coach in the SEC despite only being 45 years old. Think about that. He's got 20 years of coaching left should he want to do so.

He's got essentially a lifetime contract at MSU. We love him and we'll make sure he knows it when his contract is up for renewal. It's his program and everyone knows it.

Basically, any and every coaching job that he would possibly want outside of MSU will open up within his career. What current coach will be at the same school 20 years from now? If he truly does want out, he'll go on his own terms to the place he wants to go.

What any AD will realize is that if he goes 9-3 this year and backs that up with another strong year next year, especially with his QB reputation, he would have cemented his reputation for building a program and running it the right way. And that would pretty well open the door for him to pick where and when he wants to exit-if ever.

Eh... early last year you guys weren't so confident in him. If he has a few 7 win seasons in a row with losses to Ole Miss, things will get shaky

You're probably right in regards to the MSU gen-pop.

Smallfanbases like State and Ole Miss are very heavily influenced by a handful of powerful boosters. The fact that Mullen's name gets tossed around for almost every opening, every year was starting to grate on the wrong MSU people. But a strange thing has happened in the last couple of years. The fact that Mullen is still around has grown a root system of loyalty toward Dan. It's a weird phenomena, with traces of Stockholm Syndrome and regular old normalcy bias mixed in.

tl;dr

cliffs: Dan has support from the right folks at MSU

Lol you have beaten us what twice in the past 20 years? Yes we sucked this year but you are delusional if you think any LSU fan gives a shite who the Moo State HC is.
