I know some fans in my family who still can't get over the black bear thing.

I second that. People like to go with the popular belief that Mississippi is first at being the worst at everything. I've lived in Mississippi all my life and of course I've encountered some racism, but not any more than in any other states.

There's racism in every state. Mississippi gets bad rap because of the civil rights movement. Mississippi is no more racist than Missouri or Kansas.

I haven't been to MO or KS. I agree it's everywhere, but it's much worse in MS than anyplace else I've lived.

I've lived in MS much of my life. I still own a house there. My experience has been that racism is far more rampant in MS than anyplace else I've lived.

Glad others have had different experiences, but I'm not just going by what I've heard from other people. I'm going by my own experiences living there relative to other places I've lived.

If you want to see racism you should visit Boston I've been all over the south and there's not a worse place than Boston when it comes to racism.

Big cities are usually worse than rural & suburban areas.

And I've experienced the exact opposite since moving from MS to New Orleans. There are a lot of people here who truly, truly believe some antiquated things.

Boston is so bad that their damn hockey fans were sending racist tweets I believe 2yrs ago after a black players scored against them. That shite was crazy.

ETA: A lot of them deleted their accounts after ESPN and other sites showed the tweets.

About the Flood thing? No.

About not supporting Ole Miss if we drop "Ole Miss" and Rebels? Dead serious. I'm not going to support a university that is so scared of it's past that it constantly gives in to people yelling "that's racist!"

Yes we should have gotten rid of the confederate flags
Yes we should have gotten rid of Colonel Reb

But getting rid of our school's nickname and our mascot because people that don't give a shite about our school are offended is insanely moronic. I don't want an athletics program that's willing to do that to succeed.

Still doesn't change the fact that Houston (which I lived in most my life) and other southern cities such as Nashville, Atlanta & Birmingham are not even as close to as racist as Boston.

New Orleans citizens are forced into experiencing a different kind of culture. They get a pass.

Look at all of the governments today where people are pissed at their government and revolt. The people who revolt are called rebels. Rebels isn't a racist word, and I hope that Ole Miss doesn't fall in this political talk that exists today. OMG, a tiger has black stripes, does that LSU needs a new mascot? This political corrections crap is getting out of hand. Black bears? I can hear the blacks complain about the bear's color. They need to go with the Polar Bear. This kind of crap makes me realize how one person in a race does something evil and people want to brand an entire race. Does Derrick Todd Lee represent the black race?

Exactly. Told him to sit at the back of the bus and called him a slave when introducing the black guy from Stamford to the office.

Ole Miss has done more for backs then just about any other university in recent history. Where did that get them?

St Louis is another city. Got a good history lesson on the area from SLU's geography dept and why there are a lot of smaller individual municipalities on the outer ring of STL, I believe over 50+ small lil towns. Talk about white flight in full effect. Think STL metro set the benchmark for that.
