A patriot? Would be a reasonable transition I think.

Probably later this year when Swag dresses up like a reb and goes on an AK47 rampage.

lol. I'm in New York now and can say that this statement is entirely false. Hell, just going to New Orleaans, I experienced so much more racism than I did in Mississippi. But continue with your dumbass narrative.

To answer the OP, sadly I think they will drop it. People seem to be more concerned with Jenner, old flags, whether someone is white or black, versus legitimate problems.

I do agree with several posters that people in the northeast bring a racism, even ethnicism( I know I'm making up a word ) that is beyond any southerners comprehension except perhaps the most disturbed among us.

I agree with this. Really and truly what old Confederate traditions are left at Ole Miss? No flag, no colonel, and no Dixie. Rebels could mean a myriad of different types. The university needs to hold firm on this if it is brought up.

Damn this shite is getting out of hand....and I'm black. Wow. Is it really this serious.

Yes, some people are this pathetic.

The white guilt is getting out of hand.

The opportunity was missed. Ole Miss could have chosen Admiral Ackbar, and completely repackaged the Rebel thing to something other than the confederacy. They could have played up when other teams come to Oxford in their all white (Storm Trooper) uniforms. They really could have played up the Rebel Alliance vs The Evil Empire thing, and gotten away with it.

Instead, they chose a freakin bear.

About the Flood thing? No.

About not supporting Ole Miss if we drop "Ole Miss" and Rebels? Dead serious. I'm not going to support a university that is so scared of it's past that it constantly gives in to people yelling "that's racist!"

Yes we should have gotten rid of the confederate flags
Yes we should have gotten rid of Colonel Reb

But getting rid of our school's nickname and our mascot because people that don't give a shite about our school are offended is insanely moronic. I don't want an athletics program that's willing to do that to succeed.

Pennsylvania is incredibly racist as well.

And very segregated, the term "the other side of the tracks" is still valid in some places there.

I hate to say it, but all of this protesting the confederate flag and media flaming is only going to make things worse for those contesting it.

There's already a push to get rid of the "Rebel" nickname for a Vestavia Hills high school.

quote:

Vestavia Hills Rebel mascot a vestige of racism, a smear on the city

This week, in the reflection of that South Carolina horror, Nabors went on a Vestavia Hills Facebook group and questioned – far more politely than I would -- whether the time of the Rebel mascot has passed.

"In light of the race-based Charleston murders, now seems like a good time to have another discussion on this topic," she wrote.

Lucas Arts didn't allow us to have Admiral Ackbar so we didn't even have a choice in that matter.
