Why is the South Carolina football program terrible?

Is there anything of substance that they don’t have that other programs like LSU, Bama, UGA, etc. do have?

I’m not talking about winning tradition. I’m talking about things of substance. Do they not have money? Do they not have fertile recruiting grounds? Georgia and Florida are next door, so the recruiting shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t get it.

They've shown they can have good teams and seasons with the right coaches and there is definitely fan support.

It is puzzling no doubt.

It’s as inexplicable as Georgia having a terrible basketball program. Both schools are within the Blue Belt where good athletes are a dime a dozen.

Maybe the NIL will change things, especially for USC because of their great interest in football. I don’t think Georgia fans have much interest in basketball.

They don't have a very good recruiting base. You need someone who can recruit nationally like Dabo has done at Clemson. I don't know about their facilities.

The Carolinas and GA isn’t a good base?

And our facilities are top notch, but that’s only a recent development within the last decade or so.

Historically it’s because our fans, as passionate as they are, simply haven’t put the money into winning or even demanded a winner. They built an 80k sized stadium that they didn’t expect to bring home many championships.

That attitude actually what has separated us from Clemson for our histories.

The money is now being spent and I think the younger generation does expect more on the field as well.

Your team might have a brand of football problem if the most notable player that you can recall is George Rogers...

Extremely incompetent administration. The amount of dumbass decisions we’ve made over the years is ridiculous. And we have fans who unfortunately support us even when we suck so there’s no incentives to improve

You don’t get many top players from either place. There are only a handful in SC each year and you never sign any from Georgia. Talking 4/5 stars

Its because they are little brother to Clemson in the hardest league.

Generally speaking…

Our Board of Trustees is more interested in leveraging political influence than ensuring the right people are in place to lead the university.

Our boosters are more interested in the perks of being part of the good ole boy network than shelling out the money to make demands and do what’s best for athletics.

Our Athletic Director isn’t qualified for his position and routinely makes poor decisions.

We have to battle UGA and Clemson for local kids, two teams that basically turned into Alabama in recent years.

Our fanbase is intensely loyal to the point where a large majority don’t believe in criticizing the program when it’s needed.

Having said all that, Beamer made me feel much more optimistic than I was a year ago, so I guess that’s something. We do have good facilities, a nice football atmosphere, and seem to be doing a good job of attacking the transfer portal.

Even speaking as a Hog, no one in the SEC impresses me more than USCe fans. As loyal as can be. Pretty much as SEC as can be.

I hope Beamer works out for you. Holtz and Spurrier did well but both were at the end of their careers so you know with the right coach things can happen.

Muschamp was a ridiculously bad hire, I couldn't believe that one, was it a panic hire or just plain stupidity?

I'm kind of partial to USC since we came in the SEC at the same time used to play yearly til the FNG's came in and screwed all our stuff up. I like their fan base as well.

But no worries, you'll be as strong as ever when you roll around to us on the schedule, it never fails...haha..

There are usually 5 or fewer 4 stars per year in SC. That's your answer

At least we can finish above .500 and our HC drinks sweet tea, when was the last time LSU could say that?

The only problem is, too much of that younger generation are Yankees who leave the region and don’t care about the program or school ever again. Pastides Yankeeing up the school is going to take a decade or more to unfrick.
