Muschamp was a ridiculously bad hire, I couldn't believe that one, was it a panic hire or just plain stupidity?
It was the first example of Ray Tanner being way in over his head as AD. Even then, the actual hiring of Muschamp when we had a head start on everyone that year wasn’t the dumbest part - it was the extension that Tanner gave him, which we’ll still be paying him for over the next few years.
It’s actually kind of crazy looking back at our head coaching targets from 2015 and where they ended up.
Tom Herman and Justin Fuente have since been fired, Lincoln Riley might have come to us but he definitely wouldn’t have stayed long, and we know how Kirby has worked out at UGA. None of those worked out for us, so I guess you could call Muschamp a panic hire.

We tried to hire Kirby. Then Georgia panicked and fired Richt and grabbed him. Tom Herman was about to take the job and backed out when we lost to citadel, so it’s not like Muschamp was our number 1 guy

I think they have everything to br successful. Beamer seems legit and I feel like if he makes that program a success, he will stay there.

The South Carolina administration has always treated South Carolina athletics like intramural sports. We have spent money in the last 15 years on facilities, but it seems like its more of an investment to show the rest of the SEC we're 'serious' about sports, when in reality the administration is perfectly content to take in the yearly SEC money and go home.

South Carolina's ceiling should be higher then Tennessee's at this point in history with demographic shifts. Columbia is plenty close enough to Atlanta, Charlotte, and all the recruits Florida has to offer. Is Columbia a great place to live, no, but it isn't the worst either. South Carolina has good football facilities as well.

Clemson is a much better option

I shudder to think who we would've hired had we passed on Muschamp... RichRod?

There are usually 5 or fewer 4 stars per year in SC. That's your answer
Again, that didn’t stop Clemson from getting what it needed from the Carolinas, GA, and FL and winning national titles. And Clemson is the smaller school, with a smaller fan base, with less money than us.
It’s just a matter of finding the right coach and putting in the right resources.

They finished with more wins than LSU did this season didn't they?

They don't have a very good recruiting base. You need someone who can recruit nationally like Dabo has done at Clemson. I don't know about their facilities.
How do you explain about Texas A&M lack of football championships?

You don’t get many top players from either place. There are only a handful in SC each year and you never sign any from Georgia. Talking 4/5 stars
Mizzou did! They 4* quarterback from Georgia! How did that happen?

Cool people that support their team despite not having consistent on field results. America could use more of this, not less

Drinkwitz was a year away for you guys, but Odom had to go and almost got Harsin, but he was asking for 5 million a year. No way and Drinkwitz did interview with Arkansas, and they wouldn't pay 4 million for him and that is how he ended up as the Missouri HC. Drinkwitz has a long way to go because the roster is so bad, he will need to keep recruiting 5*,4* and high 3* regularly in the next couple years to get the roster close to SEC level. Then he has to deal with coaches leaving and so far, not too bad. The main point is trying to have the coaches and players staying for a while as a group to build continuity.

When we start getting 5* qbs I’m sure this program will turn around.

Having that damn rooster crowing constantly during a game is a big problem.

They just Don’t win recruiting battles. Maybe they can climb a little bit off the backs of Florida and North Carolina being bad. But they have it tough being 2nd place program, 3 best team in a small state next to 2 perennial playoff contenders.

Recruiting isn’t the problem, at least not during the Muschamp era. He could get talent on campus, but he didn’t develop a single player other than Javon Kinlaw and our S&C coach was the one who got him into shape and that’s why he was a top 10 pick. There are several Muschamp recruits in the NFL and pretty much all of them are better in the NFL than they were in college. That’s all you need to know about his player development.
The best example of how shitty he was is Jake Bentley. Bentley started halfway through the ‘16 season and managed to get us to a bowl and looked very promising. And Muschamp never developed him from there. He looked like the exact same QB he was when he first started as he was when he transferred out. He was Bo Nix before Bo Nix. Or Chris Richard 2.0 if you remember him.

The only problem is, too much of that younger generation are Yankees who leave the region and don’t care about the program or school ever again. Pastides Yankeeing up the school is going to take a decade or more to unfrick.
