I didn't think Baton Rouge was that bad when I visited. There was only one area of it that seemed sketchy as shite.

“Incredible mountain biking”. What % of society does this appeal to?

In my neck of the woods, Huge. In fact, Utah is known for World Class Mountain biking, and I have friends that travel to Arkansas solely to ride mountain bikes. I can get on my bike at my house and have access to close to 120 miles of trails. And that's just one local trail complex.

While our rock climbing isn't as well know, I also hove friends that travel to Arky for the climbing.

It also has some of the best fly fishing I've ever seen and I've fished all over the states.

If you like the outdoors, Arkansas is a cool state.

Same reason that Walmart and Poultry money and the fact of NW ARKANSAS being so nice, but cannot produce many championships.

Aggie has money too. Where has that gotten them?
Mizzybilt is an AAU program…..where are the championships?

Those things don’t determine outcomes on the field.

Baton Rouge is a nice place with the exception of a certain part to the north. You can always identify the poors who have never been able to afford a ticket to a road game.
Very easy to identify someone who has no knowledge of the outside world and thinks that Baton Rouge is a "nice place." Four trips for football, and four more for baseball, have definitely left an impression on me. Now, not all of Baton Rouge is Mogadishu west, and they actually have improved some areas on the edge of campus, but I have to imagine that every recruit they fly into BTR is driven to campus in a vehicle with heavy window tinting so that they aren't able to look out at what the northern half of Baton Rouge has to offer.

The folks in Southern Louisiana should just be thankful that the federal government (through the Corps of Engineers) has kept the Mississippi from leaving its channel and taking a more direct route to the Gulf, as it's been trying to do for 100 years, which would leave both Baton Rouge and New Orleans sitting on a mud flat with no purpose.

Columbia has a much nicer downtown than Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge is a shithole and it was a shithole 20 years ago too. The LSU folks that defend it have never lived anywhere else and it’s all they really know.

There is no doubt about this. North Carolinians keep saying that Columbia is 7 degrees warmer than everywhere else because of three river valleys.

I don't buy it.

I've kayaked from Gervais Street Bridge all the way down to 601 in the summer. i 've gone down Catawba from Camden to Santee.

Both are equally as miserable summer trips. But you have to get them in when you get them in.

Funny, it seems like everywhere I've been in Arkansas there seems to be support for the Razorbacks. It's like the whole state supports them, not just Fayetteville.

I guess the trashy parts of Arkansas don't support them.

I spent 30 years in the Air Force at a variety of installations, and when I retired in 2013, I moved back home to Baton Rouge to be near family. I’ve seen plenty of the outside world and can say there are places that are far worse. Aside from the northern part of the city, I think it’s a nice place to live, and I don’t regret my decision to move here.

There is a bad side, and a good side..like most popular cities. Not sure if you are very new to the USA, trolling, or very dumb.

I think the area around LSU's campus is very pretty. The campus architecture is fascinating and beautiful. LSU's design (Northern Italian Renaissance) was heavily influenced by the planners (Olmsted Bros) of Stanford University and its California Mission Revival architecture. Their landscape architecture firm was hired at LSU create an overall plan for the new campus

The campuses are quite similar.

I grew up out of state and toured 15 schools (many of them in the SEC) and chose LSU.

LSU had one of the nicest campuses of any I visited and some of the areas around campus (LSU lakes and Highland Rd south of campus) were as nice if not nicer than any other areas of the towns I visited.

North BR is awful and some pockets around campus are too (past north gate and back of Tigerland/Gardere), but overall South BR/St. George is pretty nice and I enjoyed living there minus the traffic. I've lived in TN, FL, GA and LA now and the culture/people in LA blow the other three states out of the water.

LSU campus is incredible, no doubt. But outside of that, there ain’t much else to write home about I’m sure BR was awesome in the 70s,80s, and even 90s but the 2000s and Katrina overwhelming BR and its infrastructure with refugees harmed it a good bit I feel.

Agree with this. I moved to Baton Rouge right out of college in ‘81 and the food and culture blew me away. I was in Louisiana for 7 years and I still use terms like neutral ground instead of median.
