The concept of the oval G appeared first with Greenbay. UGA took that concept and changed it. Greenbay then updated their logo to look more like the UGA version. The original Greenbay and UGA logos are very similar. So similar that a lawsuit over the trademark would certainly fail if UGA filed one. UGA therefore is licensed by Greenbay to use its logo due to how similar they are.
UGA didn't steal or borrow anything.

Plagiarism is use without permission. UGA had permission to base the first UGA design on the Packers old design. Later, the Packers copied UGA's updated design. Great art builds on great art over and over.

3$PN did a college football logo recognition quiz nationwide and even with the black and red coloring people still said Green Bay when they were shown it.
So it is pretty simple to get a well known logo, then when you do something like make the CFP, people will remember them now for the next 37 years!
