They have to be kicking themselves that they lost the bid with the addition of OU and Texas. Will they get another conference rights or get out of college football completely?

Because ESPN knew about the merger of OU Texas way before CBs did and they outbid them.

They actually got a "bargain deal", but it will run out in 23 or 24 I forget. Anyway Disney simply threw more money at the SEC.
quote:

Though terms were not disclosed, ESPN’s annual fee is expected to be in the low $300 million range, according to Sports Business Journal, a considerable and expected increase from the $55 million per year that the conference receives from CBS—a bargain deal that was struck in 1996.

SI article from December 10th, 2020

edit I think we now know what the "undisclosed terms" are.

From my understanding, the SEC tried to convince CBS to re-negotiate the current deal several years ago once it became so absurdly one-sided in CBS's favor. The SEC's only leverage was warning CBS that if they didn't renegotiate, the SEC would't work with them on a renewal once the contract expired. And that is exactly what the SEC did. I don't think CBS even made a serious offer because the SEC made it known they were not the preferred partner any longer due to screwing us over the last decade.

Gary Danielson is anything but a BAMA fan. He doesn't like Alabama one bit, and it shows. People like you say this because he has no option but to talk about how good Alabama's coach is, how good the players are, and Alabama's accomplishments on the field. What the hell can he say otherwise? Is there really anything negative to be said? But listen to the man. He cannot stand Alabama, and he loathes Alabama winning football games.

I dont think its that far. I think gary is pretty even keeled. Nobody likes him being critical when their team is losing. Which he does. No fault there IMO

One thing I've learned by posting on this board is that the commentators always pull for the other team.

ESPN will inevitably hire him.

Does anyone really care?

Outside of the nostalgic bumper theme music, CBS has sucked arse doing football for 2 decades. 5 mins of commercials every 10 min of action.

frick them with used buttplugs.

Smart man.
When the numbers came out it was hard to imagine that happening with the current teams
Plus I don’t think ESPN/SEC trusted CBS enough to tell them about their 16 team conference.

CBS used SEC Football money to invest into European soccer. They felt like the growth in that was much higher than in college football.

Honestly, if its a Saturday and I'm at home and my choices are between watching a game on CBS, abc, ESPN or fox I'm picking the cbs game everytime (unless my team is playing at the same time). Everything about the broadcast of those games just seems cleaner and more traditional. I know its been beaten to death the past few years but getting away from the traditionalism of college football sucks and i hate it.

As far as broadcast quality, no one can touch NBC. I would've loved to see the SEC go there.

Exactly
Insider trading.
And between the SEC and owning the rights to the playoffs they are now the most powerful force in college football.

I believe CBS dropped out of the bidding, they didn't lose
