Can't verify, but if accurate....wow.

-- Stanford is very seriously considering ending all of their sports programs because they are not interested in fooling with this NIL mess.

-- Nationally, 54% of the football players who entered the transfer portal last year did not find a new home.

I said it at the genesis of this NIL mess and other rule changes that they have the very potential to end up destroying the college game.

It’s a business now

If you enter the transfer portal i.e. quit your job, there may not be another opportunity to use your services at another school.

historically, your proverbial 54% of players have quit the team and didn't go somewhere else to play

there's nothing new here

Stanford is an elitist leftist school who would love nothing more than to help cripple football and men's basketball altogether, per cancel culture

so frick Stanford

This is huge news if true. Texas will have zero competition for the Directors Cup.

I wouldn’t care if the entire PAC-whatever conference gave up football.

Based on how their football has been post-Luck, it seems like they already have ended their football program.

That would be sad to lose the best overall college athletic program in the country.

Yeah, but what percentage of these players enter the transfer portal just to stay at their original school? I imagine it would be pretty high.

Id rather see it go back to what the Ivy League does than pretend that Toledo needs to be a farm system for Ohio State or Alabama.

The current system is terrible.

Stanford can't win anymore, so they want to take their ball and go home

just like the Ivy League did, who does not even participate in 1AA playoffs because they're too good to play against the peasantry

This probably isn't true but it wouldn't be shocking either.

Stanford is a world class university that in no way at all, needs an athletic department.

I don’t know where op is basing this from, but after I saw this thread, I went over to a Stanford sports forum and saw this post:

Has anyone considered that the erosion of the football program is being intentionally ALLOWED to happen?

Fan base dwindling, transfer portal exodus, attractive NIL opportunities elsewhere (that render the "40-year decision" less compelling), UCLA & USC bailing out of the Pac 12, Pac12 Network suing DISH for breach of contract, no new deal with ESPN or FOX, fewer kids playing football because of concussion/brain injury concerns...Perhaps TPTB just don't want to bother with it all anymore.

The booster money that could go into NIL if Stanford wanted to play that game coming out of silicon valley exceeds even what Texas and Texas A&M have to play with.

They just think its dumb to create a minor league football league and I agree.
