Seems like Stanford student athletes would be smart enough to realize that a Stanford education is more valuable in the long run than some NIL pennies.

College football needs to change, and I think it starts with scholarships. Either cut them from 85 to 70 (as a starting point) or get rid of them altogether.

The booster money that could go into NIL if Stanford wanted to play that game coming out of silicon valley exceeds even what Texas and Texas A&M have to play with.

The difference is the tech bros don’t give a frick about sports, especially football. Especially college football.

I could easily see some teams getting out rather than dealing with NIL competition and teams raiding your team every year
Stanford could be like an Ivy League team instead
It's totally going away from what the collegiate model should be and that's not healthy for the sport
What's the value of an education for someone like Bryce Young making millions right now

You mean the university who has won several all-sports and Lear competition trophies?

NIL has to do with individuals, it's not something they could stop or affect in any case.

I'm having a hard time taking such a rumor with any sort of credibility.

There’s that word. Quitting begats more quitting. Everybody just quit! That’s it!

Ruining the sport. An education is no longer of any value. It sucks really.

Exactly. If Tim Cook gave a frick about football, Auburn would get literally anyone they want.

This would be surprising to me given the range of sports they have and how many probably aren’t really effected by NIL.

Jacquez Jones outright called the portal “scary” for this very reason.

I think this is more of a temporary issue as players figure out their value though. That said, programs like Kentucky are put in a better position to compete because of the portal. Which is what we should want in CFB.

In the short term, not much.

After their playing career is over?

Could be worth more. Lots of athletes go broke for various reasons (some spend money lavishly like it'll never end but others get suckered into bad investments because they don't know better).

Then again, they could just go back to school/learn how to invest their money/learn a new skill once they're done playing if they want.

players have quit for a hundred years

they get hurt, they want to go back to the farm and marry a girl, they head to the factory, they become regular students, et al

That 247 site has to create drama for clicks and the transfer portal is a cash cow for them because of Fantasy "football" types, aka, sheep

That’s, uh, one way to put it.

I’m supposed to have heard about every junior college in Texas? It’s a big state.

Honestly, it’s been this way for a while now. Amateurism and even “student athlete” haven’t been applicable to football and basketball for a while now.

NIL has broadened that to other sports.
