Also, please explain the logic on Louisville being a destination job over Mississippi State

You act like Louisville is paradise. Our program history is head and shoulders above Louisville’s.

I was referring to quality of life. There is no comparison between Louisville the city and Starkville the city.

Too many fans on the rant play down the small college town feel of Starkville. Not every coach wants to live in a large metropolis area. Some might like the small town/country vibe and may have grown up somewhere similar.

As someone who has spent a lot of time in both places, I can say that you've never been to Starkville. If you have, it was 20 years ago, or it wasn't long enough to make a fair assessment of the place. People are going to have preferences between big cities or small towns. But to say that quality of life in Starkville doesn't measure up is a joke. Especially to Louisville.

Everyone likes to crap on Starkville. I usually let it slide because it's just ignorance, because they don't know any better.

Yup. I live in Arlington, VA. I prefer Starkville.

Fine if you do. It doesn't make it less factual. The timing of the announcement will validate.

All the window lickers in this thread referencing locale as a main reason for a head baseball coach to make his decision

OK, so every program in the SEC would lose their coach to Pepperdine or Hawaii, or Colorado State? Would they not prefer to live in those places? Who wouldn't?

Manieri came to LSU from Notre Dame. Y'all think he preferred Baton Rouge/New Orleans to South Bend/Chicago? He jumped at the chance to guide an elite program in the elite conference for baseball.

Don't downplay the importance that MSU places on its baseball program. That goes a long way when luring a coach.

Willing to bet you haven’t been to Starkville in atleast 5 years, which pretty much makes you an expert on the matter.

I've been looking forward to this hire for a while. Starting to get nervous with the Miami situation. Will they go after a big name or will they promote from within and go cheap? The U is the sleeping giant of college baseball

Zero shot at Jim and Tim.

Yeah, those two don't make much sense to me.

Corbin would be a fool to leave Vanderbilt. He has already proven that he can win a national championship and recruit elite talent year in and year out. With the culture that he has created at Vanderbilt, and his ability to recruit nationally, I just don't see it. I also don't think that he is a cultural fit at State.

Schloss, not as sure about. While he hasn't won it all yet, he has come one win shy of playing in the championship series multiple times. Does going to State make this any easier? I doubt it. Money and resources at TCU are good, but I can see the appeal of wanting to play in the SEC. The Big XII has plenty of good baseball, but it still isn't the SEC. Advantage State. I also recall a few years ago that Schloss felt at a disadvantage recruiting to a private school. I do not know whether this has gotten any better over the last few years. Hard to see him passing on the Texas job to take the State job a year later, but it would not shock me.

McDonnell actually makes the most sense of the three. I can definitely see the appeal of State over Louisville from a baseball standpoint, especially to a coach who is familiar with the SEC and the State of Mississippi. But, does he want to come in and be the instate rival of his buddy Bianco? On the plus side, he's already at an Adidas school, so he is accustomed to wearing hideous uniforms.

Honestly, I think State makes a good hire, even if it is not one of these three. If it is, kudos. If it is Corbin, frick off and convince me Vandy couldn't hire Schloss, McDonnell, or Brian O'Connor.

MSU has been wearing these Sunday unis

It's obviously McDonnell. Do they have to bleach their hair, wear puka shells and grow line-beards to convince y'all?

LSU can have him as a hitting coach. State's freshmen's batting avg went up about .100 after Cann left.

I think that is who most State fans want. He is a top 5 coach.

Not to mention, McDonnell grew up in a small town in NY and coached at Ole Miss for 5 years before getting the job at Louisville. I don't think the small town vs big town thing is all that important to him. And when you're talking about major programs, where they are generally doesn't matter. You think Nick Saban cared he was going to be in Tuscaloosa? The program itself matters a whole lot more than where it is.

well, on the flip side, Bianco went to Ole Miss, a rival of his alma mater and previous coaching job. I tend to believe that rarely has much effect on where guys take jobs. Plenty of D-1 head coaches in all sports coach at schools that are rivals of their alma maters or previous coaching jobs. IMO, McDonnell would and should jump at the opportunity to coach at a program like State.
