I have to agree with you on all accounts but 1....

We're not on a steep trajectory down hill nowadays. We have jumped off a cliff and the bottom is going to be rock hard!

Remember this though, it's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the end.

Go Vols!

Earlier ones had Tim Foley and some other guy, TBS Game of the Week.

Came on other channels too.

I honestly think that the JP era of televised games really did a lot to grow college football into the empire that it has become. TV executives started paying attention and then shelled out massive amounts of cash for the product.

It got good ratings, even when it featured a not very appealing game. I agree, TV executives keep track of stuff like that. The JP games were a godsend to the SEC in particular and college football in general.

Now I wonder why you might think that?

My favorite part of this post is that both games you found feature the Rebs. JP and the Daves was like hanging out with old friends every saturday because we had that slot so often.

I loved the old JP games. Even if you were in the conference cellar, JP gave a lot of teams great exposure.

After Friday night games and film early on Saturday mornings, everybody would haul butt to get to their TVs for the JP game.

I hated those games and I still hate the 11am games.

Loved Jefferson Pilot games.

For the young guns. Most of your team’s games weren’t televised. So it was actually a big deal to get the JP game of the week. You’d wake up to watch gameday. And then roll right into the 11am JP game.

“Did he catch that” was also a common phrase because the picture quality was so bad lol. Having a good color guy actually mattered.

I think Jevan Snead and Houston Nutt upsetting Tebow and the Gators was Lincoln Financial/Jefferson Pilot in 2008

The screenshot in the OP I'm not sure if it was that particular game though I could be mistaken - I think Jefferson Pilot transitioned to Lincoln Financial right around that time.

ACC Games were sponsored by RAYCOM right?

It started to decline but the last couple of years it had really picked up more steam.

The shitty economy in 2008-2012 and again now put the strain on a lot of budgets but there's no doubt that TV ratings, revenue, and fan interest keep climbing.

And i sincerely believe those best mid to late 90s teams would stomp a mudhole into today's teams because today 's players are soft asf in comparison and they just all view it as a money grab nothing else now.

The only team with comparable toughness as those teams is Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs. That's why they are on top right now.
