One claim is based on feelings. The other is based on the (real) trophies. You decide which one matters more. Does everything taste like pork ribs and cotton candy in Rainbow Land? I’ve never been, you tell me what it’s like.

Why sure, you think aggie should have celebrated and claimed victory because the poll said they were better. That's cool, I just happen to believe the score board is where you find the truth. We can agree to disagree. So do you also believe Texas is back? You know sports writers say they are every year so it must be true. It's kinda crazy when you think about it, instead of playing the games and taking the chance of someone getting hurt we could just use the same opinion polls you talk about. I mean they are never wrong, are they?

this genuinely makes me sad. you still are ignoring whether any team in history who won both polls, as alabama did in 1964, hasnt claimed the title.

It's not about "claiming titles" it's about acknowledging TROPHIES AWARDED. Look in the trophy case and count the number of trophies awarded by reputable organizations. The OP basically laid out that since 1936 the sportswriters, and later the coaches association, are the only two organizations whose championship awards are worth acknowledging.
This is basically how ALL of college football saw it, and how LSU still does it, until Alabama started acknowledging awards from less than reputable organizations ironically enough, and, additionally, started claiming Rose Bowl victories as national championships, all to just pad their already impressive numbers. That's when people really started to realize how insecure Alabama fans really are.

AP poll had zero differentiating credibility in those early years. At best, you’re talking credibility—in the reporters own eyes, mind you—post-war in the 50’s. More likely credibility didn’t start until the 70’s
