Oh, we see....you pick our 1995 season as an example.

Mutt, I used 1995 because that was the only time I went to Athens so that was my opinion based on that visit.

The Swamp may be in need of upgrades but the OP subject was fan atmosphere, and it rates way above the stadium in Athens, which didn't make the list. Woof, woof!

drunk cajun idiots threatening your 5 year old.

This never happened.

I can tell you what did happen to me. As I have said. I have quite a few LSU alumni in my family. When I go to Baton Rouge I stay with them and many times they drive me and my girlfriend to the game.

It was in 1987 and LSU was going for an SEC title, and a possible NC. My family was giving me a hard time, but I told them LSU had trouble with Alabama in Tiger Stadium.

Alabama won, of course, and when I got back to the van they refused to take me back to the house. One of them caught some common sense and said that they needed to take us back, they had brought us. I think he may have been the only sober one.

I still kid them about it

split almost 50-50,

It was maybe 51-49 at worse. I never got the Auburn excuse that Legion Field was not neutral since Auburn played there most years as well.

It was not until late in the 1970's that Auburn stopped playing in Birmingham.

Many stadium workers at the gates and concession stands, as well as parking attendants, were often decked out in Alabama gear. It felt like a road environment for Auburn fans, who cultivated a level of paranoia about playing Alabama in Birmingham over the years.
In his 1991 eulogy to Auburn's relationship with Legion Field, David Housel said the relationship between Auburn and Legion Field started when astroturf was installed. Alabama was "consulted about the turf and what kind to buy;" Auburn "read about it in the newspaper." That was the same year Cliff Hare Stadium was enlarged to 64,000 seats and Auburn began wanting to have more games on campus.
“Legion Field, neutral site? Never. Never,” Housel said. “You got Coach Bryant’s statue out there, and rightly so; I think Coach Bryant’s statue ought to be there. I think that’s a good thing. But Auburn playing Alabama at Legion Field, it was about as neutral as the beaches of Normandy were June 6, 1944.”

What fanbase has a shitty everything but gymnastics and starts football threads in baseball season?

There isn’t a single sport, with the exception of womens bball, where UGA hasn’t had more success than UT..if you define success as NCs and high finishes in national standings.

***********No surprise here! Only surprise was Georgia missing off the list!!***********

UGA Home games are better than they used to be but the crowd is still not as loud and in the moment as many fanbases are. If it is tight and a pivotal moment I'd say it can rival anyone but it isn't sustained. Far better than it was until about 2010 or so though...I can remember being at UGA games back in the 90s and the game would be tight and the fans would be discussing their students behavior at Hahira High School...it was BAD. It wasn't unusual at all for people to ask others to sit down and be less loud. It was like a big dinner party where everyone wasn't familiar with one another. Its a lot better now. Kirby is good about encouraging fan participation....and it seems like many fans have taken that to heart...

Alabama #3? The 50 yard line seats are so far from the actual field you might as well be sitting in the next county!

They get really scared though.

The change to turf was really when things became a bit unfair. Bama played 3-4 games there each year. Auburn just one in the 70s and 80s.

There were also ticket packages sold to all events at Legion Field each year. Obviously it’s a much better deal when Bama plays 3x more games there, so roughly 20% of the stadium was Bama fans who took advantage of that deal, and the rest was then split “50/50”. But it resulted in a 60/40 type split.

And for the fans, the drink cups were Bama cups. The workers were decked out in Bama gear, etc.

Definitely not a “neutral” atmosphere
