Talked good trash, then backed it up most of the time.

So many great coaches over the years, so it's impossible for me to put a hard number on it. But easily Hall of Fame material on multiple levels.

In the SEC, he’s right behind Saban and Bryant.

FSU comes no where close to the '90's success had they played in the SEC instead of the very bad ACC.

And we're done.

With what? Do ya really think they have the same success in the SEC in the 90's? horseshite

In not the one who tried to compare the 70's SEC to the 90's SEC.

Florida State wasn't exactly ducking anyone when they were independent, which was the case until 1992. They played Miami and Florida every season, they played Clemson and Auburn frequently, and they went on the road and played a top 5 Michigan team in 1991. Those were loaded FSU teams and they would have been just fine in the SEC.

61-2 vs the ACC in the 90's

7-6-1 vs the SEC in the 90's

There's a reason they declined the SEC invite in the 90's

Ignorance is a choice.

Spurriers Offense with the talent at UF in today’s rules wouldve crushed

That’s like saying QBs today are better than greats of the past when today’s rules make it easier.

They also played their fair share of cupcakes especially after they became more established under Bowden
FSU schedule 1990

Also, much easier to set your schedule if you're an independent back then and no home and home conference obligations

People forget that Spurrier turned DUKE into a winning program. DUKE, y'all. Not the Duke now. Duke then. They were Raleigh Durham high school.

Then he turned Florida into a winning program. Florida was basically nobody until Spurrier. Then, he turned SC into a winning program. SC was a nobody.

I remember when he was at Florida. He changed the entire conference. I've never seen anyone do what he did for college football and the SEC. Our conference started dominating the rest of the country as a result of his influence on the conference. And the SEC championship games between Florida and Alabama were epic.

Good question. Certainly top 10. He basically reinvented offense in the SEC

The second mistake that followed his career was deciding to take on a historically bad, second-tier SEC team when he hated to recruit.

Isn’t that pretty much what Florida was when he become HC?

He did not have to contend with Miami in the 90s. They never played. UF lost a Sugar Bowl to Miami by 17 in 2000 or 2001.

And Miami and UF were the ONLY teams you had to worry about in the 90's.You were guaranteed 8 wins a year just for being in the ACC. You went 62-2 in 8 years. Was there ONE game in those 64 that you weren't favored?

UF had to deal with UT,AU,LSU and whoever won the West.

There's a reason Bobby pussed out and declined the SEC invite.

They played LSU and Auburn in the 90s. They played ND 3-4 times in the 90s. They played USc West twice in the 90s. aTm once. Michigan. Plus others. When you add those teams in, it more than made up for their Conference schedule. Bowden was 5-8-1 against UF with Spurrier. He basically played the very best the SEC had to offer. He was not tussling around with Vandy, Moo State, UGA who was SEC bottom feeders during that time. Bless your Ray Goff heart!

Spurrier was/is a helluva football Coach. Top 5 in the SEC. but he was a pure shithead, just Steve being Steve. Great Coach, but an a-hole.
