Him hanging 50 on UG at their home stadium makes him the greatest human to ever live.

Spurrier hated to recruit and that has always been the story that followed him.
The second mistake that followed his career was deciding to take on a historically bad, second-tier SEC team when he hated to recruit.

I think he was a great coach, for his time. The game certainly passed him by though. The Fun and Gun just doesn't work anymore. But what he did at UF was amazing, and what he did at SC was even more amazing, seeing as how bad we have always been. But remember this, at the time he was here, SC has super incredible HS talent in the State, and he was a big name, so it was a no brainer for them to come here. The in-state talent now for HS is nothing compared to back then.

Even though his sharp tongue miffed me at times, I gotta admit, I miss that m'effer. Top 5 all time, for sure.

Spurrier was a great offensive mind. Like others, he didn’t always have great defensive coordinators.
He could drive and score points but at times during his HC career sometimes could not stop the run on defense. Gator fans will remember how Jackie Sherrill ran on him and won every visit to Starkville. In fact, ran will.
Can’t blame all that on him. We, like other teams, ran the ball and ate up clock, giving his offense less minutes with the ball.

That loss to Kentucky after beating Alabama will always be a head scratcher.

Steve Spurrier is without a doubt one of the most important and influential coaches in the history of the SEC. He changed the way offense was thought of in the conference and was among the most feared coaches to ever walk a sideline in the SEC. That being said, he dominated the conference at a time of great transition and turmoil for a number of schools within the SEC. Tennessee and Alabama were his only two sources of legitimate competition for much of the decade. He was a combined 6-10-1 against the two truly dominant powers of the 1990s: Florida State and Nebraska. And for all of his dominance throughout the 90s and early-00s, his was usually only the third best team in the state of Florida.

He didn’t like recruiting enough. If he did, oh boy...

Love Spurrier. Great, innovative offensive mind and the biggest misconception about him is that he was a Mike Leach type who always threw the ball. Spurrier's running games at Florida were better than he ever got credit for. What he did best though was run the same play over and over and over again until the defense figured out how to stop it. If it wasn't broken, he didn't try and fix it.
He's also 1/1A with John McKay as the greatest quote machines in the history of coaching.

Fourth greatest SEC coach ever after Saban, Bryant, and Neyland and a top 20 CFB coach of all-time.

Imagine if he'd have stayed at Florida...

Well, he lost to Dubose twice in one year at UF. How many teams did he quit on mid-season?
I only went back to his early years at Florida but will finish and update.
His second year he beat Alabama and gave them their only loss 35-0! Same year he beat what would have been a 9-2 UGA 45-13. He beat a Fla State 11-1 at the time 14-9.
1993: he gave Tennessee one of its only 2 losses, beat the pants off LSU who would have had 2 losses 61-14, Beat Bama in Sec Championship game 28-13 and beat an undefeated WV team in the bowl game 41-7.
Now, I looked ahead and saw he defeated undefeated Alabama 24-23 in 1994 Sec Championship.
1995 went undefeated but lost a natty to Nebraska, the greatest rushing team in college history.
Anyway, I just peeked ahead and he beat a Tennessee team that finished 10-2 and a LSU team that also finished 10-2 because of their losses to Spurrier. Enough said

So the Alabama fan who stated Spurrier played a down SEC is mistaking. End of discussion.

He’s right at wherever Fisher is I suppose.
So much complete idiocy don't know where to start.
Jimbo's yet to win a division much less a SEC title. Spurrier won 7 divisions and 6 SEC titles in 12 seasons. UF was also playing 2 national title contenders (UT/FSU) many of Spurriers 12 seasons and he won a freakin ACC title at Duke in his 3rd season.
Top 5 in the modern era (post integration)
