That would be an improvement, likely. Last couple years, the A10 was prolly better.

We lost to a&m, Georgia, tenn, LSU, bama and Mizzou on the road I assure you it can get better than that.

I wish people in the SEC cared about basketball.

They dog our Conference, but we still had 2 of the Final Four teams contending last season for the title with far less entries.

Until the SEC can step up in their early OOC games, the perception won't change.

Kentucky and Florida would be tops in just about any league. The league outside of that is some hot garbage. Worse than the Big 10 in football bad.
Mizzou might get good in the next 2-3 years, but as of now are super young and not ready. Arkansas will always be good at home under mike anderson. LSU got that top recruit, but a single one and done wont lift the program. The only other program that might surprise people would be SC, because Frank Martin might scare his players into winning.

If you were anything close to good on the road last year, you would have been in the NCAA instead of the NIT.

Hard to see the forrest with all those pesky ESPN spin trees in the way.

And while we're at it - don't get him started on the belief that the SEC isn't much of a basketball league, particularly coming off a campaign where Florida was No. 1 for much of the regular season, Kentucky made it to the national championship game as a No. 8 seed, and Tennessee nearly joined its two conference mates in the Final Four.
"I'm really getting sick to my stomach with that whole rhetoric that this league's not any good. Bruce Pearl, Elite Eight. Bill Donovan, speaks for itself. Just go on down the line. Kevin Stallings, Elite Eight. Mike Anderson, Elite Eight. I've been fortunate enough to be in an Elite Eight game. (John) Calipari, three Final Fours at three different universities. Just take your pick. Just keep going down the line," Martin said.
"Those are the kinds of coaches you have in this conference, and to sit back and tell coaches who understand what it takes to be successful that their league stinks - it's a joke. That's personal. It doesn't stink. I don't know who started that whole phenomena that the SEC's no good. I don't know who it is. It just makes no sense to me whatsoever. None."

"Everyone says that the league was down last year. OK, then, how's Kentucky lose 10 games and play for the national championship? They're no good? Or are they real good? ... Tennessee beat teams by 40 in non-conference play, and then they come into our league and lose six games, I think they lose in league play. And all of the sudden, they're not any good. Really? They were a minute away from going to the Final Four and having three (SEC) teams in the Final Four. How is that possible if you don't have a conference that's any good?" Martin asked.
"It's hard for me to understand this whole rhetoric and dynamic about the SEC not being very good. It really is. If it didn't bother me, I would have given you a two-word answer and we'd have moved on. But I just don't get it. I really don't. And I think a lot of the people who report the league isn't very good don't pay attention to basketball."
In 2014, SEC was #3 in attendance behind the B1G and ACC (who had 15 teams instead of 14) and saw all 3 teams invited to the Big Dance advance to the Sweet Sixteen and 2 advanced to the Final Four.

to win in college basketball there are two paths to take
1. have excellent talent
2. have several hard working, smart playing seniors with the right coach
You rarely, if ever, see #2 in the SEC. So, there are a few teams with great talent, and the rest are full of athletes that don't play smart and have subpar coaching.

Bottom line is the same thing we talk about with the Big Ten and other leagues in football : have to win some meaningful OOC games in the early season. Got plenty of opportunities coming up for Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, Mizzou, Ole Miss, etc. If you lose all the games against solid Power 5 teams and drop some games to mid-majors then you aren't going to get respect.
And you don't deserve to.
And you don't deserve to.

Right you are methinks. Name a school or two who is great in both football and basketball. ???
There have been schools in the past who were able to pull it off for short durations, but who has done so continuously?
It's almost like such would violate the laws of physics or something.
Never contemplated this with such focus, but now that I think about it... weird.

Things have gotten ugly in SEC hoops. Its like it happened overnight, but its really been bad for a while. I miss when Bama and MSU were pretty good and had heated rivalry type games. I miss Dale Brown, Nolan Richardson, Wimp and Sonny. Maybe one day we will get back to where we had iconic coaches in the league other than at UK and UF.
Bama looks better thru 3 games this year, but we have yet to play anybody with a real pulse. Besides, how do you expect a team to come into coleman and beat Bama in front of hundreds of sleepy fans.

Kentucky looks like they invented the sport right now.
Blow out an extremely overrated Kansas team, and how quickly everyone forgets that you were losing at halftime to Buffalo.

Why don't you think UF fits that description? Over the last 20 years UF has won 3 national titles, played for another and won more games than any other school. In basketball we've won 2 titles, played for another and been to an additional two Final Fours (5 in all). The run we went on in football/basketball from 2006-2007 is unlikely to ever be repeated.

In 2005-2006, LSU finished the season with a bowl win over Miami and a top 10 ranking in football, a final 4 appearance in basketball, but posted their worst baseball season in decades.
Florida has been the best at being dominant in both.
