Only when it helps Bama. Otherwise they can all get bent.

Wrong. We cheered for Ole Miss Baseball in 2016 to seal an SEC regular season championship.

Some people were complaining that Bama didn’t belong in the game, pointing at Florida State’s narrow loss to Miami that season, saying that a rematch was the only way to determine who the best team in the nation was that year.

Alabama deserved to play for the national title in 1992 and was a worthy champion, but I’m not so sure FSU wasn’t the best team in the latter part of the year.

If the playoffs had existed in 1992 and UA-FSU had been matched up in the semifinals in the Fiesta Bowl or Cotton Bowl (or some bowl like that) I might would favor the Seminoles.

I cheer for Auburn a lot because my girlfriend is an Auburn fan. At least on the outside I'm cheering.

Definitely agree. I grew up in Louisiana, so I frequently find myself cheering for LSU or louisiana schools as well because of family allegiances and friends. Now being in the SEC I pull for SEC in out of conference and bowl games.

Don't pull for the longhorns in anything. There is an Ardoin kid that plays for them in baseball that is from my home high school (Sam Houston, Moss Bluff) and I went to school with the HS Baseball coach, so I have been rooting for him personally. That's about all I can stomach though.

Where it really gets interesting is who don't you like in matchups that you don't have vested interest? Ohio St. vs Michigan? Florida St and Miami? Notre Dame? Southern Cal?

Likewise

If MSU wins (in any sport) then so be it... Good for them. Wouldn't ever root for them regardless of who they might be playing.

That game started a return to prominence by the SEC

Urban and Saban going to the SEC is what returned it to prominence, or what it is now anyway. From Stallings to Saban, it was pretty much just Florida and Tennessee with a sprinkle of LSU towards the end. The major conferences were more or less equal; at least as far as having at least one title contender; from roughly 1980-2005. You won't see teams like Washington, Colorado, Georgia Tech, VA Tech, Nebraska, Texas, etc compete for a title anytime soon (might be able to throw FSU and Michigan in that mix at some point too).

The homer in me says FSU wins more titles if the playoffs were added after BYU's 'title', but the realist in me says Bobby finds a way to be too conservative (or we match up with UM and choke it away )

Any of the big 3 sports, name the time you cheered hardest for a rival that you usually cheer against.

Clemson over Alabama.

Not really a rival otherwise.

Can honestly say I’ve never cheered for Auburn. Probably only pulled for UT when they play Auburn.

Kick Six game. Remember thinking Saban was an idiot for not taking the FG from inside the Auburn 20 a little earlier in the 4th Quarter. Felt so much joy when that bit him in the arse.

Same. I regret it now, but I couldn’t stand Miami at the time. The SEC angle came into play for me, as well.

Depends on the rival. I often root for GT and sometimes for Tennessee.

UF and Auburn - not even against Ohio State or Clemson. Never.

LSU over Clemson.
Auburn over Oregon. But not really

Georgia over Clemson 2021. It's happening.

I cheered for Auburn hard during their NCAA Tourney run in 2019.

Felt kind of sick tho.
