Again, I’m not in favor of expansion. But the greedy people who make all the decisions are calling the shots. So we might as well put ourselves in the best position.

I get it but can you imagine the Big 10 now having teams from New York to California and thinking that's a good model because of TV markets? Just crazy.

If and when UVA and UNC have the option of leaving the ACC they will have a choice between the B10 or SEC. UVA for sure, and most likely UNC, will choose the B10. More money, better academic prestige, better cultural fit.

Owning a state used to matter when most tv money was made by charging cable households in that state triple to carry the conference network. Not so much anymore. Its a pure ratings game now and a game like Clemson/FSU vs UGA is going to get triple the ratings of UVA vs UGA. So its not a huge loss for us.

If owning high population states was all that mattered, Arizona and Washington would already be in the B10.

The ECU talk is ridiculous. The Big 12 would have already taken them if they were a sleeping giant of a program that could bring the NC market.

Right, maybe they would choose the BIG. But you are forgetting that they probably don’t want to fly their women’s soccer teams out to Los Angeles to play a conference game. And I think UNC and Virginia probably have more in common culturally with UGA and Florida than they do with Wisconsin and Minnesota. Lot of things to think about here.

Absolutely. I'm not sure why people here think the Big Ten is a good cultural fit. Unc's actual fans are very southern.

VA Tech over UVA as VT has a large alumni base in the DMV area which is a very large TV market for sports.

NC State IMO is a better fit in the SEC instead of UNC. Both have about the same amount of alum still instate, especially in the major population areas but NC State has a better game day experience pregame and during than UNC by far. UNC is very family friendly but it is not what you would expect coming from a SEC venue.

NC State by the way ranks 2nd in the ACC for attendance only behind Clemson.

ECU for alumni base is really good especially as the majority of their alumni end up in the Triangle which is the 2nd largest market in the state. Their fans are 100% committed to them no matter how they are doing and game day atmosphere is always wild in Greenville.

Not UNC as much since there seems to be more people moving here from the NE, Midwest, and West Coast, especially in the Triangle area. Parents are from elsewhere than move here and their kids end up at UNC. Where my kids go to school I know less than 10% of the families are from NC. Virginia on the other hand I have no clue.

Come here and it is so liberal here in the Triangle you would think you are in NY or the West Coast.

Definitely for the money as both are members AAU which gets the majority of federal research money in the country and a requirement for B10 entry.

Currently only a&m, UF, and Vandy I believe are part of the 66 members.

The last I saw the average amount of research money they get each year is around 500 million annually with several schools getting over 1 billion.

The same thing is happening in Atlanta. People move from all over. Hardly a southern city anymore. Closer culturally to San Francisco than Macon, Georgia. All of their kids end up going to UGA now. So, culturally not that different.

Also the AAU members in the SEC are Vandy, Florida, A&M, Missouri, and soon to be Texas. UGA isn’t AAU but UGA is ranked in the top 50 in the US News and Report overall and is ranked the 16th best public university by the same publication.
Again, I think we likely have more in common with UNC than Wisconsin or Minnesota.

SEC schools with higher admissions stats than Purdue:
- Vandy
- Texas
- UGA
- UF
- South Carolina
- Texas A&M

Sit the frick down. Purdue accepts over 60% of their applicants.

Except for UNC the Olympic Sports are a better fit for UNC in the BG10 and combine that with the AAU part rumors around campus are if they were to leave the BG10 would be the destination.

I doubt admission standards are a concern for UNC as they have a hard cap of only allowing 18% from out of state. So measuring them against other schools to me seems irrelevant so not sure what that other poster seems to think.

Also several of the SEC schools outside of Vandy rank high nationally especially in some of the specific programs.

Yeah, if you actually are a Purdue fan, you really shouldn’t be bragging about academics. Academically, Purdue would be middle of the road in the SEC. Nothing special at all.

UNC is more similar to UGa than any school in the country except UVa IMO.

I mean look where UGA is ranked in the us news and report and then look where Purdue is ranked. Seems that several people think UGA is better than Purdue. I would never consider going to college at any university in Indiana other than Notre Dame. Indiana is really a pretty redneck state.
