What Would ESPN Do?

SEC has media rights deal with ESPN. However, the deal does not give rights for individual schools. So if LSU gets expelled, ESPN loses all of the LSU games.
The deal is worth about $800 million/ year and expires 2034.

Really, you think that's how it works?
If I paid you for 16 widgets, and you give me 15, I still pay for 16?

We just refund them your portion of the money. Problem solved.

Yes, all the slots would still be filled with quality product. Besides, no one placing ads gives a shite about the Louisisana market. No purchasing power.

I'm sure there's language in the contract that if the members of the league change, an FMV or something similar will be done to valuate the impact and make an adjustment to the contract.

Cute you think only people watching LSU games are in Louisiana.

These types of agreements have clauses to address this.
These are the two most likely scenarios based on similar agreements I've seen:
A reduction in the # of teams would either:
1. Trigger an automatic pro-rata adjustment to the fees due to the SEC by ESPN; or
2. Trigger a renegotiation clause that would require the parties to renegotiate the specific financials based on the reduced conference membership.
It gets more complicated due to the advertising dollars that may have already been spent, so I imagine scenario 2 is more likely (putting aside any legal claim ESPN may have against the SEC).

Moot point. LSU isn't getting expelled.

Is that why College Game Day is in Baton Rouge on Friday?

If LSU leaves, they still cede their home broadcasting rights to the SEC until 2034. However, ESPN would still likely consider it a major change and adjust the payout downward commensurate to the upward adjustment it made for the addition of OU and TX. They could also force the SEC back to the negotiating table and get more favorable terms for an already undervalued deal comparative to the B1G
If kicked out, LSU gets their rights back and no exit fee. They become college footballs hottest commodity to make independent broadcasting deal or join another conference with their own leverage. ESPN certainly forces a restructuring of the deal that isn't favorable to the SEC. It wouldn't be a clean 1/16 cut, as LSU is a top tier program for media in football and baseball. The SEC would have to provide a replacement of equal value or lose bigly.

At very worst possible, SEC would only lose 1/16 but if they got any team to join, they still wouldn't lose as much as people think.

LSU is a tier 1 program. Their revenue generation accounts for more than a 1/16 share in the eyes of the network that structured the deal. The adjustment would be a downward payout greater than 1/16 and potentially force an extension of the deal at a deflated rate to avoid a steeper payout cut through 2033.

Never forget ESPN is owned by Disney & Disney is liberal as hell. Two recent analysts, strong conservative females fired by ESPN both, said they were fired by ESPN because of some of their conservative on -air comments Both said that there are a lot "radical woke activists " at Disney.

It’s amazing watching LSU fans over inflate the LSU brand.

"Problems solved"? The plaintiffs in all these suits are former college players. If they are not allowed to play on college teams, they will lose any / all their NIL monies. These plaintiff attys involved will immediately sue the SEC & the NCAA for loss of income by these players..

the sec is getting screwed already …espn won’t give two shits about splitting the money between the rest of the schools. The next espn deal with be about 1.5 bil .
