Arkansas didn't want to fire him and that wasn't why he was fired.
He was fired because he was given an opportunity and that Included an amended contract. He was given guidelines to follow and a get out of jail card.
"You're trying to turn me into a monk, I won't do it."
He was fired soon after.
Bert underachieved with the 2014 and 2015 teams.
He would have done better at Arkansas if he got sober, stopped running his mouth and taken his job more seriously.

I believe it was when Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC that killed Arkansas recruiting advantage in the States of Texas and Oklahoma. Plus, the state of Arkansas is bordered by other schools from other states that that have an advantage in recruiting over Arkansas. Basically Arkansas got squeezed out from all sides around the other states that border Arkansas.

This is false.
When Arkansas entered the SEC, they were able to expand it's recruiting territories in states that they that have not recruited in the SWC.

This is why.
Why Arkansas ended up getting those coaches because no one better wanted to be at a huge disadvantage over other states in recruiting that border Arkansas.

It found a way to overcome that with above average coaching.

Drinkwitz is a good example. He chose Missouri over Arkansas. Arkansas hasn't had a good HC in a very long time because it isn't an attractive job in football.

How is that true? There is no in-state competition, and yall have wealthy alumni boosters. Arkansas is also situated between lots of recruiting hotbeds (Louisiana, West TN, Texas, and MS). I'm not seeing what the disadvantage is?

Oklahoma has the worst recruiting situation in my opinion. Texas is pretty big while Louisiana and southeastern recruits are a ways off.
Many SEC schools have a luxury of recruiting not taking away from sitting down with family every night. Not Oklahoma.

You are dead on the money. It all began when they joined the SEC. That placed them at a recruiting disadvantage. The addition of Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri was a death blow. They all have more money and better programs than Arkansas. Combine that with one of the worst high school football situations in the south, and you have a recipe for disaster. No one wants to take the coaching job, so it is a constant carousel of subpar candidates. Couple that with inadequate football facilities that would probably take at least $500 million to correct, and no NIL money of significance, and you can’t pull out of the rut you’ve placed yourself in. No matter who you choose as AD or coach, with no high school football feeder and inadequate funds, you have what you are now witnessing. If you do manage to land, the occasional good player, all of the neighboring schools are watching you carefully, and will poach that player for a fee. Most players will jump at the chance to get away from an under performing program. It’s not as bad as it’s gonna get. Just stay tuned.
