Arkansas spent 75 years in a Texas conference.
Before 1958, they had more losing seasons than all members of the SWC.
Frank Broyles and his assistant went to an A&M practice and watched. Both had doubts that they could get players to compete in the SWC.
He started 0-6 in his first season. He called up his father and said he was ready to go home, join the family business. He won his last four games and he changed his mind.
In the 50s, the reputation of Arkansas suffered from the Little Rock nine crisis.
They had a population less than 2 million and was the smallest state in the South. Fayetteville was very isolated.
For some reason they were a power from the 60s to the 80s.

Darrell Royal did try to persuade as many recruits in Texas to Arkansas or Oklahoma as possible if he couldn't get them.

That was back then. This is now. Why haven't any good HC wanted the Arkansas HC job? I am only talking about football.

It has been bad. In the 14 seasons since Petrino Arkansas has had:
Three 2-10 seasons
Eight seasons with 4 or less wins
Two seasons with 8 or more wins
Zero seasons with double digit wins
One season finishing in the AP Top 25 (21st).

Because Arkansas hasn't bothered hire them.
Frank Broyles was an AD with decades of head coaching experience and understood the strengths and weaknesses of Arkansas. What coaches would be a good fit or not.
Arkansas currently doesn't have that and it is ran by people who just count the money.

Arkansas did give Pittman a huge raise. Why then bother giving Pittman a huge raise and not bother saving that money to hire someone better?

Beliema was far from perfect but he could put competitive/tough teams on the field. He was a big steal at the time and called Arky a destination job
