Yep. It's easily Witten.

Jason Witten and it is not even close.

Next stop: Canton, Ohio

You’re a fricking fool, it’s probably 50/50 on which “Greatest TE’s in NFL History” lists that have Witten or the Oz higher.

Oz been waiting on Witten in Canton since 1999

Pitts is still so young only 22. I'm hoping to see him in a offense with a decent QB that actually uses him once he leaves Atlanta.

Maybe Ridder gets it going this year. I hope so he's too good to waste.

I say Aaron Hernandez, he was "killing it" in the NFL.

A lot of words just to be dead wrong

It’s very clearly Jason Witten

You also asked this question

What SEC Tight End had the best NFL Career?

And then mention a player that is still playing

Ozzie Newsome is in the college and pro hall of fame and has been one of the best GM/executives in the NFL for a few decades. Tough to have a better career in football.

Witten had the better receiving #s, but the different eras make that less relevant. Hell, the average starting QBs of today have HOF numbers if they played in a different era.

"Nicknamed the “Wizard of Oz,” Newsome became the leading tight end receiver in NFL history with 662 receptions for 7,980 yards and 47 touchdowns. He ranked as the fourth leading receiver when he retired."

Comparing passing/receiving stats between eras is apples and oranges. Witten was great, but Ozzie Newsome redefined the position. Witten was first or second team All-Pro 4 times, Newsome 5 times. Witten was first team, AP twice and Newsome once. Witten avg 10 yds per catch, Newsome 12 ypc.

Both HOF players with great careers, but Newsome paved the way.

This is bit of hyperbole.

Jackie Smith had basically the same career as Newsome but started in the early 1960s. Kellen Winslow Senior had basically the same career and played at the same time.

John Mackey and Jackie Smith were the guys that really shifted the TE position from an extension of line blocking to active threats in a passing scheme.

Newsome extended that trend along with Winslow, Todd Christensen, and several others.

Nutt screwed Jason Peters by playing him at multiple positions which ended up getting him undrafted. A 340 pound player at TE was stupid.

I remember he did the same years earlier with RB Brandon Holmes switching him over to DE. Yes a 220 pound former RB at that position makes perfect sense.

Good choice. I'm sure there are others, but Witten was excellent.
