Vols: maybe comfortable?

Nope...typically too hot and humid for the first two or three games. Late kickoff times are essential early in the season. Heat, humidity and a giant erector set are not a great combination for comfort.

Fayetteville in September is still a might bit on the warm side. Most days its OK, but you will have your share of drowning in sweat days.

You will probably get a nice breeze tailgating at Arkansas though. The stadium is in a valley and that funnels the wind nicely.

Sadly, for seemingly all fan bases, we are fricked.

East Coast Band had it right in the first reply:

Arkansas wins! Arkansas wins!

You are the only person who didn't outright say FRICK THAT so Arkansas has the best chance of being somewhat comfortable. Meaning, only one application of Gold Bond per quarter to prevent the swamp arse.

How does TN or KY fare early on? It may be Vols, Vandy, or Kentucky.

So maybe those are not too miserable? Everywhere else sucks for day games

Tennessee has played neutral site game openers the last two years (3 of the last 4). Here is the high each day for home season openers in Knoxville for the last 10 seasons:

2018 - Neutral Site
2017 - Neutral Site

Sept. 1, 2016 - 90F, 83% humidity
2015 - Neutral Site
Aug 30, 2014 - 90F, 86% humidity
Aug 31, 2013 - 90F, 98% humidity
2012 - Neutral Site
Sept. 3, 2011 - 97F, 84% humidity
Sept. 4, 2010 - 77F, 44% humidity (the exception to the rule)
Sept. 5, 2009 - 85F, 93% humidity

I think Arkansas is the only one at about 1400'. Knoxville and Athens are both right around 800', Lexington is close to 1000'. Most other SEC stadiums are much lower.

Williams Brice in Columbia is around 200' surrounded by higher areas 140 miles from the coast and downwind of the lee side of the largest Appalachian mountains. Its in a literal pit of hell.

That 3:00 time slot on SECN+ we have locked up makes for some pretty hot games early in the season. It'll be 90-100 degrees well into September in Fayetteville.

A football thread where Kentucky and Missouri are held as “might be the best”.

Shut it down.

You haven't been to Mizzou at the end of August I'm guessing...it is hot and humid as all get out. You never know, if we get an early fall it's at least possible it could be gorgeous (especially for a night game), but usually there's a game or two at the start where it's miserable.

(to be fair, I haven't been to the South in late August either, so it may be 10x worse, but mid-Missouri isn't a great place to be at 3:00 in the afternoon in late August---although we do occasionally get a great day)

Eh. I think the general consensus is we’re all hot and humid in the early season.

It’s generally hot as hell in late August/early Sep in Missouri. Y’all don’t know about this Midwest humidity

None of them

Late August and early September can be hot and humid in CWS and they are the second most northern stadium in the league. If they had any sense the SEC would have night games till maybe mid to late September but they want the noon and 3pm games for the ratings.

You would be surprised. Temperatures are usually mid 90's and very humid.

In fact, just 2 hours west, Kansas City has the 5th most 100+ degree days per year on average in the entire USA.

My guess is CoMo North and Lexington have "stuck weather" as they are too far from a coast that brings coastal breeze and winds. Probably Fayattenam as well. I remember back in the 60's and 70's where there was just no moving air and guys dropping like flies from the heat.

I think Baton Rouge and Gainesville both qualify for hot and humid as frick+++.

Well, remember I'm trapped in the Arkansas Delta right now. Fayetteville seems like Eden in comparison.

The only saving grace to all the neutral site games to open the season for Alabama. By and large, they have been in domed stadiums with AC.

Having said that, the only one I've been to is last year's Orlando beat down.
