It's a sad day when a whole administration of a University hide something as sick as molestation. Especially someone like Joe Pa keeping it under wraps. The guy is a national figure and inspiration.

These coaches and admins are people that are supposed to set a good example to kids who look up to them. Now Joe Pa will most likely be remembered for this instead of the good things he did, but if he knew about it then that's his own fault. Sad way to go out.


I really worry about society today, it sickens me.

Yeah, PSU is about the last place I would imagine this happening. A really sad situation. I keep hoping that it turns out that Joe Pa really didn't know how bad it was, but I'm afraid it's looking bad for him. Tragic all the way around.

If it happened at my school, I dunno. I'd have a real hard time maintaining any allegiance, that's for sure.

I just don't understand why in the hell they would cover it up. They could have quietly fired him and turned him over to the police the instant they heard about the first allegation. I mean..child molestation! WTF was wrong with them? Instead they kept quiet and forever tarnished the reputation and image of a prestigious university and one of the most respected and well liked coaches of all time. Mind blowing.

I read the Grand Jury Report. It's definitely worth reading before making an opinion on the whole subject. However, needless to say...it's EXTREMELY disturbing and will frick you up for a few hours.

Basically, here is the gist of it for those who don't know...Sandusky was allegedly doing improper things for a long time, and even did these things on campus. There were suspicions among people who had supposedly walked in on some semi-suspicious stuff, but nothing extremely blatant until the graduate assistant walked in on a blatant incident (and I mean blatant).

The GA (now the WR coach) allegedly reported it to Paterno, who reported it to his higher ups (the AD and the university administration) and told the two coaches that they would take care of it. Essentially they swept it under the rug, which is why they are under trial right now.

The police commissioner came out and basically said that so far as the grand jury testimony is concerned (unless further details are revealed), Paterno and the GA are innocent of breaking the law, as they fulfilled their legal obligation by reporting it to their "higher ups" in the chain of command. However, the commissioner also said that Paterno should have immediately gone to the police instead of just waiting for his bosses to take care of the incident.

I don't like to speculate, but given this information, it seems like at best, Paterno just informed his higher ups and didn't really follow up on whether they did the right thing and informed the proper authorities. At the absolute worst, he was complicit in a cover-up with the administration.



As to answer the OP, I honestly don't know how I would react if a similar thing came out at my school. I would probably end up just hoping that these were just unfounded allegations, but if they turned out to be true, I would probably want to clean house.


I think what makes this worse for the Penn State community is that Paterno and his "regime" (can't think of a better word) have basically defined Penn State. There was an article on Grantland by someone who grew up close to State College about how this has affected them, since everything about that community lived and breathed PSU football. So if this happened at a school where the administration was relatively new, it would be much easier to sever ties, whereas now, it's like realizing everything you believed in was a lie.

If you flee from that, then you're a fricking pussy and just a shitty person IMO

Had I walked in on that two people would be headed to prison instead of one...

I would contact the Association of Former Students and let them know that, until and unless this has been dealt with, to include all personnel involved being prosecuted and all personnel knowing about it fired and banned from campus, not to contact me or to include me in their database. I would lock away my Aggie Ring as well.

This would be one of the few things that would cause me to cut all ties with my school.

I think it would be a long time before I could force myself to step foot on LSUs campus or where another purple and gold piece of clothing. I would want absolutely nothing to do with that organization.

To the OP, I would support my school, but my diploma, my passion for football, supporting the athletic department would be over until they completely cleaned house

Having said that, I need to know what did JoePA know and when did he know it. The former GA would be who I need to hear from. Did JoePA really know the truth about the situation? Was JoePA part of a coverup?

I have learned we Ned to get the facts, the media is not interested on the truth, just the story.
