PSU trustees have now compounded their institutional failure caused by the mishandling of these matters by Spanier, Curley and Schultz. This was a P.R. move solely to relieve the pressure that PSU was under for their errors.

JoePa met with Curley and Schultz who is over the Campus police dept, making him effectively the chief of police. The criticism of Paterno was that he didn't call the police, but he met with the police chief.

He loses his job because of the media frenzy calling for blood. Trustees dismiss Paterno by phone after 60 years at PSU.

Trustees have appointed a committee to investigate, but fire Paterno without even talking to him. Yeah, that sounds fair. Wonder why those crazy students are upset.

Funny how the chief of police is just an "administrator" on ESPN.

This is one reason I don't like having a bunch of educators in charge of a police department. University Police for the most part have their hands tied by adminstrators that don't want the officers to investgate crimes nor look for crimes.

I think the feeling is that, when young children are being raped, it is not enough to simply report it and absolve yourself.
You would like to think that, if you witnessed something or knew of something, you would press the issue to prevent further harm.
Why didn't McCready stop Sandusky on the spot?
Why didn't Joe Pa, bring it back up. Perhaps he was in denial. I think for a man who professed deep faith, integrity etc he is being judged that he did nothing more and ignored a heinous situation.

don't throw around those accusations about anyone at any time , leave alone right now when passions are aflame.

all it takes is some message board rantard to take it as gospel and it can ruin reputations/careers and lives.

PLEASE delete it before it requires an RA.

I would still support the players and the school. I would want the entire coaching staff and administration gone immediately though.

This is the answer.

Purge everything associated with any of the culpable actors. If there are statues, tear them down - or buildings named after them, rename them.

I would even like to see their personal records revised to indicate losses for every game won under that instance.

Exactly - whether people claim it is fair or not or the players and other students did nothing , doesn't matter

IT HAS TO HURT -just like prison, court martial, suspensions, and other punishments - no point in doing something if it is of no consequence to them at all.

One of their points of pride is football - as atonement for ruining children's lives (and their parents and other family and friends) , do something with football that will mean that you are serious about it.

Remove wins, titles - anything associated with either coach not just since 98 but even before - because god knows how many cases went unreported!

Censure yourself by reducing scholarships, have every employee go through a mandatory course to understand that this will not be tolerated.

Let the Joe Paterno statue be there but apply a patina of brown/grey polish to show that it is a tarnished legacy to serve as a daily reminder for everyone going in.

Every year hold a Remembrance day and pledge to come forward when you see any crime (especially against young or defenseless victims ) be committed.

This.

McCready is a big, big dude. He was 28 and could have whipped the rapist's arse in a heartbeat. Instead he runs away and calls his daddy. Then his daddy tells him to come home? What a pair of woosies. Had to figure they were thinking about themselves more, as in McCready & daddy thinking more about his grad assistant job than the boy getting waylayed in the shower.

Les Miles does not want anything from the Penn State University story. But the welfare of the children who live there. Football stops at the waters edge. after such a horrible sex scandal at Penn State against kids. The more you hear about the story, the sicker I get about it MGO!

What are you asking a question like this for?

Curious, thought that it someone didn't like the question they simply would not post. It went pretty well for 12 pages.

Because they can't see the forest for the trees. Kids these days are morons. If I was an alum of PSU, last night's actions would be just one more stain on an otherwise horrible couple days for that university. They are putting a football coach ahead of the instituion and the victims. In a situation like this, the entire administration and coaching staff needs to be razed and built from the ground up. No one with any ties to the situation should be left. As far as I'm concerned, they can explain their innocence at their next job interview.

Yeah, I just figured the kids didn't look into the situation and maybe didn't understand the severity of what's going on, but a couple interviews with students from the riots they knew what had not done and still think that him coaching a football game is in some way important.

Yeah, that sounds fair.

Ask those kids whats fair.

Wonder why those crazy students are upset.

Because PSU football has just ended as we all know it. No death penalty needed.

What if Penn St. Situation Happened At Your School?

Pair of pliars and a blow torch to all involved.

Burn it all down and start over ...but its not going to help. Who is going to turn down other schools and choose to play at PSU?

I have never given two turds about penn state, but their uni and colors are iconic symbols of the great traditions of college football - a major component of American culture IMO.

Now I honestly don't think I could look at them take the field without feeling sickened.

It is unimaginable, but yes I would forsake the purple and gold for a looooong time.

I would honestly give up college football. Maybe I am just getting older but I sometimes feel like it is overtaking areas of focus in my life that should be more important; I can say if this happened at Alabama I would never watch another game. I have always been a Paterno fan and it kills me he did this but he needs to be doing some jail time he may as well have held the kids down for him by not reporting to the actual authorities and then allowing the guy to still use the facilities.

Yeah, it'd bother me big time as well. As others have pointed out, I'd want a total house cleaning with administration and the football staff to be dismissed (even if most of the assistant coaches had nothing to do with it, like the PSU situation.

I could understand why people would turn their backs on their schools when something this despicable happens.
