Mississippi has always been a hotbed for talent .... tons of talent. The problems for the Mississippi schools are:

1 - everybody recruits Mississippi. Everybody. There have been plenty of years when the top 5-10 players would sign out of state.

I've not followed recruitment for ~5 years, but Mississippi was the one state famous for being difficult to get players out of. One year I remember something like the top 20 players all either went to OM, MSU, or Alabama. While following the recruitment of specific players, I've noticed a lot of them really seem to love their mom...a lot. I think there is a disproportionate amount of them from single parent households and they want to stay close.

When was the last time LA lost an instate player? There can't be many.

Louisiana loses instate players all the time. It's not as bad as Florida but they lose plenty. I just looked up their 2024 class and wow, that is an anomaly with how many they kept.

I'd be willing to bet that MS produces nearly as much, if not more, HS football talent as LA ... on average, over a given sample of time.

Louisiana produces about 50% more blue chips than Mississippi. Some years they're equal, sometimes Louisiana produces 4x as many, but it averages out to 50% more looking at 2015-2019 numbers (which is what I could easily find). I also found the 2006-2018 numbers: LA 201, MS 124. So roughly 50% more.

This is a ridiculously easy answer. For this year OM is set up better but for the future, it’s easily LSU. Just chk out the recruiting. OM will get decimated after this season. Coaches probably too. But even if not, Lane better get ALL the top dogs in the portal in the postseason. If not, going to be ugly!

It's funny. We are in year 5 of the Kiffin era and I keep reading about how Lane can't recruit at Ole Miss and that he's immature, can't sustain, etc. Yet Ole Miss is widely considered one of the most talented teams in the country and is currently on pace for 3 10 win seasons in 5 years for the first time in a long time.

So I guess it's perspective. Injuries could certainly detail this season but if Ole Miss makes the playoff this year, then 8-4 in a rebuild season next year is okay. Lane has shown the ability to get the talent needed to get it done thus far. If Lane leaves, he has shown that coaches can be successful at Ole Miss in the modern era and we know Ole Miss is willing to pay a coach now so I suspect we will get an exciting replacement.

I'm pretty happy with the place that Ole Miss is in right now.

Oh, how wrong you are. It is rather funny.

I could give you SO MANY names of LA players that went out-of-state to play.

Kelly is also on his way to 3- 10 win seasons in a row, won the West in year one(when Ole Miss hasn’t done it in its history), snagged a Heisman and has the #3 three recruiting class for next year when you’re not even found in the top 25. When you look at the past, present and future LSU is certainly set up for more long-term success. Any rebel fan not admitting that is just delusional.

Since Lane arrived in Oxford, here are Ole Miss’ and LSU’s records.

Ole Miss: 37-15; 71.1% winning percentage

LSU: 33-20; 62.2% winning percentage

It seems like the answer is clear.

I didn't say a word about LSU but yes, Ole Miss is going to go portal heavy again this year since we are losing so many starters. The HS recruit rankings won't be very high. I suspect we will drop a couple of the HS recruits we do have actually.

Votes so far are 45-21 in favor of Ole Miss. Coincidentally, that will also be the score of the Ole Miss - LSU game.

Are you smoking crack?

OM going beat them by a lot more than that!

So what you’re saying is Ole Miss has a better coaching staff than LSU?

What do you mean by “better position”?

If you mean who is the better team RIGHT NOW, then sure it is clearly Ole Miss

But if you mean who is better set to have long term success and consistency, it’s LSU. And the answer to that question will probably always be LSU.
