What football coach(es) from the past do you think would flourish in today's NIL/TP world?

I think Bobby Bowden would do extremely well because they were already paying players, and with an open checkbook, there's no telling how much talent he could sign just out of the state of Florida alone! He also had the gif of the gab, which would win over a lot of mommas!

Agreed, Bowden was such a smooth talker. His program did a lot of dirty/shady things but he was such a charmer he always got away with it. He'd kill it in the NIL era. He had a lot of endorsements himself compared to most college coaches.

Barry Switzer was doing NIL before it was cool. He would feast in this current climate.

Jackie Sherrill, Barry Switzer, Jimmy Johnson would be unbeatable.

He had the innate ability to draw people in because he came across as a genuine and down to earth type of person and even opposing fans found it hard to cheer against him.

I’m not sure I understand the rationale that coaches who built their programs on paying players when it was illegal would be able to replicate that success when everyone can pay players.

Mark Stoops sure as hell hasn’t figured it out. I’d like Big game Bob to give his brother some tips.

Bear Bryant

That's interesting because I don't know if his style would work with the young kids today. Players these days have absolutely no loyalty to any program and only want money. Also, during Bryant's time, your word meant something and that's not the case today.

Bobby Bowden would no longer have the pay for play advantage now with NIL.

If you were willing to spend that money when it wasn't permitted you'd open the floodgates when it is.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

The only wildcard is some poorer programs would probably get outbid by just NIL in this environment.

But then the unscrupulous programs would just cheat on top of that.

I'm just here to remind everyone that Craig James killed 5 hookers.

Everyone is opening the floodgates, neutralizing the massive advantage those coaches once enjoyed.

Spurrier, not necessarily a great evaluation guy and loathed recruiting. Master developer and play caller. Being able to flash money instead of bending the knee(def a weakness of the ole ball coach) would suit spurrier well.

Bobby Bowden

Bobby always had a dominate roster I think he’d benefit more from the expanded playoff than from nil. There were some great fsu teams that lost toss ups to elite uf and Miami teams.

It isn't just paying players. Not all schools are created equal. Some just have more money and resources than others.

In this day of NIL, what really helps is the bigger the fan base the greater the chance a program will become top level.
