At the end of the day, I think you can be a fan of any team you want to root for in any sport. Most people will pick a team on a good run or a team with a great player. It is human nature.

There is no litmus test nor any entrance requirements. It’s entertainment.

I was for Auburn well before I ever went to college there.
My son is a much bigger Auburn fan than I.
He is attending a different college.
I don’t think he is less interested than I am.
In fact, I think he is more interested in watching the games than I am at this point in my life.

I went to northwestern state. I was an online student. I feel no affinity to NSU just because I got my degree there.

I have loved MSU since I was little. I will always pull for them even though I did not go to school there.

a sidewalk fan includes those fans who cant name but like 3 players on the team. Dont know who the last coach was. watches a quarter of the game then turns the tv to lifetime or some shite after the 1st quarter. has another favorite team. will root for rivals in big games.

No you didn’t.

You may be an alum, but you didn’t physically go to school there.

You keep proving my point. It’s not about sports!!!!

Georgia Southern.

My other kid is at USC.

We let them choose where to go to college.
I did take both to Auburn as part of their college tours.

In the end, they each made their own choice for different reasons.
There are many colleges where a student can get a quality education.

There are also many sports teams that i sidewalk with like Portugal in World Cup soccer, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Lakers.

Awful explanation. I know many people who went to LSU on full ride scholarships.....no association afterwards. Only went to LSU because it was free. That exists at all colleges. Therefore, I claim they have no dirt in the game.

By your definition, a parent (non grad) who put 3 kids through LSU at $25K a year each, is a sidewalk fan despite true LSU investment.

I would rather sit next to that guy .......

You are right. I did not physically go to classes there, but my degree says Northwestern State University on it.
I love all things MSU. My oldest two want to go there. All my kids like to see how they do. It is more than sports for me. I love the traditions and the campus. I have two cowbells on my dresser.

People like former LSU fans that pull for a team that can actually beat their rival.

The term comes from "the closest he got to going to school at X was walking on the sidewalk next to a building on campus". Its a dumb distinction because literally every P5 school fanbase is almost all sidewalk fans.

Is it a fan that don't go to the school of the team they pulling for. Or is it just somebody who is pulling for a team because they winning? I can't tell what it means by these threads on here. All I know is posters make it sound bad. Like you don't got the right to pull for a team unless you went to school there or something. If that is what it is you can all kiss my arse. I didn't go to UA but I love my Tide. On a 2nd thought. How long is left to the baseball season. I look forawrd to some intelegent summer time football conversations on here.
Sheesh...

I am a die hard Auburn fan because I went to school there. Like someone else said, if they dropped sports completely I would still be a huge fan of the school.

Outside of Auburn, I don't really follow any other teams other than the casual bandwagon jumping when the Atlanta teams are good. I like watching NFL and NBA Playoffs because of the caliber of athleticism, but I really don't care who wins.
