I don't care much about the sidewalk fan designation. I attended Arkansas, but most of my friends from back home did not. Most of them are Arkansas fans anyway.
Most "sidewalk fans" have close relatives or friends who attended the school. There are a few exceptions, and rather than sidewalk fans, I call those "t-shirt fans". They tend to find a winning program and latch onto it because they're losers.

When I lived in Dallas...........remember Dallas Texas...........I had a neighbor that on his car he had the following bumper stickers............Dallas Cowboys/ LA Lakers / Boston Red Sox / Duke basketball and Alabama football.
