A&M and Texas have something in common. A toxic mix of Texas politics, money, and ego.
To understand A&M you must look at Texas.
The internal battles between big money doners, the Athletic Department, and expectations at Texas have lead to the firings of every Head Coach Texas has had in my lifetime. To include DKR and Mack Brown (Being forced out is the same as being fired).
For the first time in my life Texas has an AD that has the balls to actually change the culture of the ego and politically driven big money Alumni. (The death of a couple of truly problematic Alumni helped.. Cough… Red McCombs..).
A&M has the same issue and they will never make any changes until someone in power actually is able to take action against the Alumni that truly control the Athletic Department.

I mean they went ALL in.
They did everything you could possibly do.
Not true.
* They still have loads of boosters who insist on financially supporting the athletic department even when it's obviously underperforming and will obviously continue to do so.
* They still have a strange delusional foundation of entitlement that permeates and influences to such an extent that they will publicly (and ludicrously) claim titles and victories that can't possibly be attributable.
* They still don't have their primary cheerleading units being mostly composed of cute athletic females. (symbolmatic of many off-puting actions and behaviors)
That list is not exhaustive. There are certainly examples of these things at other programs. But that booster support problem is one that tends to waver with other schools. For most of FBS, if the team starts losing, booster/fan support drops - not because they are gong 8-4 once again, or they expect to win national titles every year - but because they are losing money. The athletic department has hard incentive to make corrections (such as fixing the cheerleader thing and other awkward traditions). That dynamic just doesn't seem to happen at A&M. If anything, they throw more money at the program. I think that's a real big problem.

This is the first post/explanation on the subject that actually makes alot of sense. I’ve wondered the same thing (and rolled my eyes at the whole “Aggies never lose, they just run out of time” philosophy). But to be honest, I’m not real sure how much of that culture makes its way to the locker room. I always assumed the players were in a bubble of sorts, and separated from student body traditions and weirdness.

Don't y'all have a guy on staff that left his wife and kids to marry a stripper? And the stripper had a monkey? And the stripper's monkey bit a kid?
How's your coaching staff? "It ain't like it used to be" am I right??!?

I agree with your post.
I've always thought the reason Bear took the players to Junction was to get away from meddling types not toughen up the players.
A&M needs to get rid of Sharp and bring in some solid administration types like when we had Robert Gates. Also need to get rid of Bjork.
Del Conte has been huge for Texas and I think most of the UT folks realize what they have. So they are leaving him alone to do his job for the most part.

Maybe even getting to Richt level while at Georgia.
Richt gets too much of a pass for what he did at UGA. Post-2009 the rest of the SEC East has been absolutely abysmal, and UGA goes most years without playing either Alabama or LSU. Smart is a great coach but Georgia was set up to win big when he arrived simply because their main competition (Florida and Tennessee) has been so shitty. Richt should have won more than what he did and he would have been no better than Fisher at A&M.

Yep, she calls herself the "Pole Assassin". She performs with the monkey. She has a unique accolade as the best pole stripper ever on the Jerry Springer Show.
Does she perform at halftime? With the monkey? Does she perform in the locker room? Do the players get to "pet" her monkey?
