The exaggerated optimism comes in not accepting failure for what it is. To the aggies, it is just a misinterpretation of results. For instance, they say that “The Aggies have never lost a game, they have only been trailing when time ran out.” Somehow putting a positive spin on losing. Moreover their optimism for the future knows no bounds - see the 20– NCAA Football Championship Trophy they gave Jimbo upon his hire. Their culture simply isn’t wired to accept failure as an option or as an occurrence. But instead of working to avoid the failure, they work through the failure and just call it success.

You could be on to something.

They went 5-7 in 2022 yet could only beat their chests over beating LSU, nevermind that LSU was in the first year of a rebuild, had less talent, and was on the road.

It was looked at as some big win, yet Jimbo was in his 5th season, they should've been the ones winning the West, not playing 5-7 spoiler.

Georgia had all that too but was on a 35 year national championship drought. Kirby gets them to the Natty in his 2nd season, wins one in his 6th and back to back in his 7th. It just takes the right coach to unlock it. But a hungry program can spin its wheels going through the wrong coaches.

A&M had an excuse for not competing when they were an all male military school simply because a lot of recruits just wouldn't consider them. That was a disadvantage for sure.

There really isn't any excuse for them anymore. I think mediocrity is just habit there.

It might be something that just can’t be quantified.

I liked the response about blinded optimism, it’s a theory that could have legs. No one holding anyone accountable.

Yet that's when they had their most success.

It could be a belief thing as well like someone alluded to earlier.

That no matter what you buy, if you don’t believe and buy in mentally nothing is gonna happen.

They seem incapable of introspection, or recognizing deficits in such retrospection. Everything must be spun into positives. Winning can never result from spinning all results into wins. You must identity losing and understand why, then turn from it!

They need someone like Muschamp to come in there and challenge the mercs they brought in with NIL.

And by challenge, I mean might actually rip the jewelry off of them and headbutt them if they don't play like they are men. They need their Orgeron. Get Miles Garrett in there to call them all pussies and tell them none of them are going to sniff an NFL practice squad while they are performing like they are scared to frick someone up.

I mean Georgia was still having good seasons though, winning 10+ games, winning their division, etc

Aggie is doing none of that.

It’s gotta be an overall, internal program issue.

After everything being said, done, executed inside the building….at the end of the day no one believes.

And I’m not shitting on them here, I thought what they did was impressive as far as pushing all chips in the middle of the table. If you can buy a class now a days, frick it, do it.

They should at minimum be rolling off 10 win seasons, or at least close to it.

Miami game is a perfect example. You HAVE to win that game. And they couldn’t do it.

I'd like to say they backed up the Brinks truck to the wrong coach but the Bear couldn't get it done there either.

I guess they're just losers.

That’s a great point.

Bear Bryant was in the building….and nothing.

Actually they really didn't have all that much success during the military school years. They would usually have about two pretty to really good teams a decade. Two decent teams, and six bad ones. They had their best run of success (other than the three year stretches in the late 30s and late '50s) under Sherrill and Slocum. The had a good team in '67 and a few good ones under Bellard in the '70s but even in those decades they were kind of up and down.

it is more than just coaching.

It is a culture problem and people from the outside see it as awkward and cringe.

That has always been used negatively against them in recruiting.

Recently they had to buy a whole class and tell them to look away.

Well you can only endure the misery so much that you got to get out.

Voodoo curse will be broken eventually.

The Cubs and Red Sox finally won their World Series after years of feeling cursed.

That will only happen if Texas annexes Louisiana.

Until then, enjoy your curse.

They are handcuffed to Jimbo's contract. I just hope that LSU don't end up in the same predicament with the that stupid contract they gave BK.

I dont understand why these schools dont do contracts geared toward incentives.
