Come on man, if we are being honest, Hartline was the grand prize for any team looking for a coach last year and we got him. Any fanbase that lured him would be ecstatic right now. If you can’t admit that, then you’re simply being dishonest.

Regarding Lane, it was a weird hire and I think most LSU fans felt he’d do quite well given what he’d done at Ole Miss. Most including myself thought he’d be better than he actually was. But if you are trying to say Lane was as big as a buzz as Hartline, you’d be wrong. Hartline's hire has created twice the buzz within the program as Lane. The vibe within the program is not even close when comparing the two.

I would say that they were just as bad. They had taken Woodard from A&M and thought that he would get Jimbo from A&M. He actually turned them down 3 times before they moved on. They finally settled on BK. They figured that with his success at ND and the resources he would have at LOLSU, that they would start racking up nattys just like Alabama and Georgia. Sound familiar?

There was more cautious optimism before the Alabama win.

But you can erase status quo with lane.

He and LSU are now soldered together after sankey/plowman/finebaum Rand thorn mouths.

Fans are on board and what you’re mistaking at cocky is galvanized anger.

In fact, I think there was actually MORE certainty w BK.

This is absolutely untrue. I think the general sentiment with Kelly was he brought stability and would win a Natty at some point. MOST thought it would be within the first 5 years. Hard not to think that when the last 3 HCs won Natties and two of those were Les fricking Miles and Ed O.

The excitement around Kiffin is completely different. Every fan thinks he’s a prick, he’s just OUR prick now. He’s brought this “frick the world”, win at all costs mentality and everyone down here fricking loves it.

You sound really jealous. Is Auburn already having buyer’s remorse with the Russian? Besides your football team looking absolutely putrid last Saturday, I hear that he is a good person.

I mean, he won multiple National titles at Tennessee and Southern Cal....so why shouldn't they be?

We felt two main things when Kelly was hired:

1. Relief that maybe the out of control spiral was over

and

2. Disappointment that it was Brian Kelly

We did think that Kelly would eventually win a title for us, and he would have if he had strung together an average defense in 2023, but that’s in the past now.

Kiffin has upside that is 100x better than Kelly.

BK was a terrible hire for LSU. There's nothing about him that fit LSU. Most of the fans I know personally didn't want him. However, just like any school, as a fan you hope for the best.

Kelly was seen as a competent CEO, needed to right the program after Coach O's irresponsibility.
He didn't have a high ceiling.

Kiffin is a transformational genuis during an unprecedented time of transformation in CFB. There is no ceiling.

Unless we're kicked out for being too good (there won't be any rules violations), LSU will dominate the SEC with Kiffin.

See the difference?

Only a moron would write this and not understand why we are excited about Kiffin in a way that we weren't about Kelly.

No teams were clamoring for Kelly. Florida and Ole Miss would have killed to get Kiffin.

None of this is fact.

We were pretty disappointed that it was Brian Kelly but we were indeed optimistic and curious as to how he’d do at LSU given his career record. We supported him and were impressed with how business-like he ran the program because we craved that after Ed O.

He beat Bama in his first season and we thought the sky was the limit but we quickly started to learn that our first reactions to his hire were indeed accurate - he was an average hire, and average coach, with an average approach.

LSU needs more than average which is why we stole Kiffin.

LSU fans were absolutely giddy about Brian Kelly, the adult in the room. Even an idiot could win a national championship at LSU, so he will win multiple was sort of the party line.

LSU even paid Notre Dame almost 3 million in buyout and of course famously paid Brian Kelly directly over 100M dollars in a few years because he won 9 games a few times in the regular season

If we’re honest, we had medium expectations with CBK

I clearly remember expectations of a championship. Lots of the past 3 coaches have all won a natty talk, including 2 who were shall we say less than the brightest. It wasn’t just LSU fans to be fair. I remember Finebaum saying Kelly would win a natty within 3 years.
