Saban is announcing tomorrow or Monday

Those who believe this probably believed in the rapture as well.
Interesting tid bit that came up in another thread.

Over the last 25 years, only 4 coaches in their first gig as a HC have won a natty. Those being Fisher, Dabo, Kirby, and Day. That's it.

Give me someone with some success running a program at a lesser conference over a coordinator any day. LSU is too big of a stage to learn on the job. Even O had experience as a HC prior to landing the full time gig.

All coaches who have ever won a natty were a first time head coach somewhere. Read my whole post. Brady shouldn't be on the list because his heart is in the NFL.

I read your post just fine. You're making the case that first time head coaches can have success. Which is simply not true. It's extremely rare for a first time head coach to have the type of success LSU requires. In addition, 3 of the 4 who managed to pull it off came from either the Urban Meyer or Nick Saban coaching trees. Those guys don't exist anymore.

Point is, in my opinion, under no circumstances should LSU hire a coach that does not have experience as a HC. I'd prefer to bring in a HC from a lesser conference than bring in a coordinator from any level.

That said there have been many first time college coaches who have ascended to the top.

Not true at all.

Fisher
Dabo
Kirby
Day

That's the list of first time HCs that have won Natty's over the last 25 years.

Guess you missed his oust at FAU after 1 1/2 seasons.
If Frank wins out, he should get a nice fat bonus check and resume his previous position.
Regardless of when the ink dries, there won't be an announcement until after the regular season. If the coach is in the playoff, it won't be until their season concludes. Strap in and enjoy the constant chaos and speculation that is the CC Board!
I really don't understand why the average fan is so concerned with the salary of coaches.

Not a dime comes from the University itself and the vast majority of it is funded by private donors using their own money.

Sure, we should 100% see value for price tag (unlike with Kelly) but as far as what they make and what donors chose to spend, us normal folk shouldn't give two shits. If the Todd Graves and Ben Bordelons and Gordons of the world want to spend their millions on coaches, I'm here for it!
Not only would we be in the playoff hunt, I bet we'd be undefeated and the top 1-2 seed going in.
Sounds like coonass for "The smart move is a 5 year contract with massive incentives." Which makes perfect sense.

so we are going to fire the AD that gave BK a 10/$100M contract with 90% buyout, so we can go hire Lane Kiffin and give him a 10/$130M contract with 90% buyout, b/c that's what he's going to want?

The age of 10 year contracts needs to die. Kiffin at $13M per for 5 is my best guess. No sauces, we've just seen A&M and now LSU both get burned by the 10 year contract BS. Dabo is the only one left and we see how that's playing out at Clemson.

Edit: Franklin had a 10 year deal as well. But nobody gives a shite about Penn State.
He's definitely a wild card. I'd absolutely take him over a college coordinator for sure.
I don't think you see much movement until the new coach is in place. To LSU's credit, they removed the cancer early enough for Frank to heal the wound and keep the program from drowning. That was the mistake with O that left 40 something scholarship players on the roster when BK came in.

Be it the OL or Nuss himself, it all starts at the top.

BK and Sloan have absolutely tanked this young man's career at this point and more than likely cost him millions in the draft. He was a Heisman front runner for a reason. The skill set, based on every "expert" analysis is there and they almost unanimously saw Nuss as 1st rounder. The inability to scheme around or resolve deficiencies lies at the feet of the HC and Coordinator.
It wasn’t/isn’t Graves.

I’ll preface this by saying I personally do not have inside sources on any front. HOWEVER, I do know someone who does. The donor has chosen to remain anonymous. Only information that is known about them is that they are from North Louisiana.

HIRE SUMRALL

Doubtful. As the dominos start to fall, Sumrall will end up at a spot like Mizzu. LSU is the top job in the country that is currently open. Only one that could potentially be better is Texas if Sark decides to bolt for the NFL.

That means LSU is top dog in this cycle and will command a top candidate. With news that Kelly's buyout is reduced (allegedly) and being mostly fronted by a single donor, LSU is about to drop some massive cash on a coach. My money is on Dan Lanning or Kiffin. More than likely it'll be Kiffin.

Edit: To add more fuel to the massive cash discussion, O's buyout to basically paid off at this point. Someone is about to get $15M a season. There is one particular individual who is currently retired that could get north of $20M if he decided to come out of retirement.
If the BK cycle taught us anything, it's that these flight logs are not an indication of who will be hired. BK never met with LSU in person before accepting the job.
If you’re LSU, you literally make Kiffin hate money before being the HC at any other school. Make him the highest paid coach in CFB for 5 years. Whatever that takes.
I mean, to be completely fair, there was a nice read up about Graves being worth $17 BILLION. LSU has has just as much donor money available to them as anyone.
