Was Womack and defense reading the press clipping?

Rat poison - something we didn’t have to worry about before. The defense was complete garbage today. Was it overrated after playing two terrible offenses? Motivation should not have been a factor. What gives? Are we fvcked the rest of the year against offenses with a pulse?

He lives and dies by the blitz
He made some good adjustments around end of 2nd quarter and things improved. Overall D played “ok” certainly not great.

Idk the numbers but it seemed like we were awful on 3rd down.

So what would you have called that would have been better. The players were in position. They didn’t make the plays.

Why were we blitzing early in the first place is my question

The #0 Robinson kid is a mismatch against anyone in college. He's like the Evans kid from A&M or that freak TE that Florida had in 2020. If he's on his game there isnt much you can do about it.

Idk something to not give up 36 to a shotty offense. FSU is. 6-6 type team. The defense sucked and was not prepared to play- especially the first half. Record day for Aston Daniels lol - that all falls on coaching and preparation

Still a weird choice not to double the guy for almost the entire game, unless I'm missing something.

I think it’s just a team had nothing to lose and a bye week and a coach on the way out and the players were playing for transfer tape.

That and Lee kept falling down. Not sure if the first weather delay drowned out some intensity or what, but the secondary was a bit sloppy.

This is the issue with fans.
FSU is actually a decent team and they are better than 6-6. You're just stuck on what they were last season. People said the same about Kentucky, the Kentucky went to College Station, dropped a TD, missed a FG and still beat A&M at home by double digits.
FSU are decent and should have beat SMU.
They had two weeks to prepare for our defense and made some grear adjustments to cause misdirection and until we could solve them they lit us on fire.
Once we solved them we scored 44 and they scored 15.
Let's try to have some perspective.

They might be decent but they aren’t good. And Daniels is a pedestrian QB and we didn’t handle him well.
SMU outgained them by 250 yards, missed multiple FGs, was -4 in turnovers and still won. In no world “should” FSU have beaten SMU.

I don't know but I hope the lesson is that the game is 60 minutes and we weren't good enough for the entire 60 minute on defense.

First off the last two weeks I have made a few pissed off posts when things weren’t going well. So I know I am opening myself up to charges of hypocrisy. Although I stand by my comments about focus and sharpness in game preparation.
But there is an element in our fan base who cannot handle it, simply come unglued, when we are not inflicting joyless murderball on our opponents not just every second but literally every millisecond of games. And they want to fire or bench or chew out someone over it.
That’s not high expectations, it’s lunacy in today’s college football world where the talent differentials aren’t as extreme as they were in the height of the Saban era.

You’re not wrong, but it hasn’t been milliseconds. We’ve trailed the past two weeks for much more game time than we’ve been ahead. Kentucky led us for almost 40 minutes. FSU I’m sure led for longer than we did.
We aren’t controlling the game well enough against lesser teams. Granted it’s great that we’ve come back to win solidly in both games. But we will be facing better teams starting here in a couple weeks and continuing to start slow will bite us.

They are good enough to where they would be problematic for us if a coach who’s struggling to save his job had two weeks to prepare for us. People are ignoring those factors. I had forgotten they were off last week. They probably started working on us the day after SMU.

Agreed. But I don’t think yesterday’s slow start would have been so glaring if the defense hadn’t been so discombobulated at the start.

We have had several Saban National Championship teams, with excellent defenses, get torched and have to win shootouts. Mac had to out duel ole miss in 2020 and Florida. In 2017 we actually lost to Auburn, giving up 24 and scoring 14. 2016 team that got gypt by Clemson was in an absolute shootout with Ole Miss and won by 3. 2015 NC team game up 43 and lost to Ole Miss. 2014 team that lost to OSU after Bo went down got lit up by Auburn and won 55-44. 2018 Clemson just scored again on a peviously undefeated defense. 2019 defense gave up 46 to Birrow and LSU and 48 in a loss to Auburn.
Let’s slow the garbage pumping a bit. I can’t remember even a dominant championship team that didn’t have its struggles on both sides of the ball at some point.
Who was giving us a shot after South Carolina 2010 when Ingram had to save us by carrying us on his back?
