I had forgotten how much Tebow’s stats dropped off his junior year.

Lots of people here use NFL success as a measure for comparing how they compared in college.

Those people will certainly agree Ingram was the correct choice as he had the best NFL career of those 4.

No.

Ingram showed out on championship Saturday and deserved it.

Dominating the SEC mattered more than dominating the PAC 12.

Ingram deserved the Heisman that year for the South Carolina game alone. The rest of the offense failed to show up, so Saban basically said, "Mark, I need you to win this game for us all by yourself," and that's exactly what he did.

No…

…BUT, I miss the era of the big, burly running backs just running through people for 1,500+ yard seasons.

Couple years before that McFadden decimated South Carolina so bad Spurrier let him off his ballot completely. He should have won it in 2007.

Matthew Stafford and Jamarcus Russell are good examples. Many people now think Matthew Stafford is a great QB and Jamarcus Russell is garbage. But that is because of their NFL careers. Not their college careers. Because in college they were very similar, Russell actually had a marginally better final season with a higher rating (167), significantly higher completion percentage (67.8%), more touchdowns (28) and less interceptions (8) his final season in 06 than Stafford did his final season in 08.

The reason many think Stafford is such a superior QB is their NFL careers, not their college career. Because as college QBs Russell was at worst equal to Stafford, and based on most stats he was slightly better than Stafford in college.

But most people will tell you Stafford is a far superior QB to Russell, even though he wasn’t when he played in the SEC. It isn’t taking anything away from Stafford. He is great. But in college so was Russell - but most people remember him as the purple drank #1 pick bust. But none of that changes how he played at LSU. And all of Stafford’s NFL success does nothing to change how he played at Georgia.

There are Georgia fans with tattoos of Kirby who bark at people. That is a double whammy.

Best way to get SEC fans incredibly invested in a random player from across the country, make sure they are a Heisman finalist in a year that a Saban era Alabama player won it.
