Wacky situation with Army Navy that could play out re: playoffs. SEC might get screwed.

And honestly, I won't care, because this could be really cool.

First, a reminder: The top 5 conference champs get in. Period. Smokeyjoe, do your homework before you post. It isn't G5 or Notre Dame. Notre Dame is mentioned nowhere in the qualifiers.

The American Conference championship game is on December 6. It could easily be Army vs. Navy. If Boise loses another game and Army and Navy win out, the winner will be in line to advance to the playoffs.

But, not so fast. In a real scheduling oddity, the traditional, regularly scheduled Army-Navy game will be the following Saturday, Dec. 14...one week after they play in the conference championship game. The conference champion will likely have to win this game to hang on to their spot in the CFP.

Two Army-Navy games, on back to back weekends...and this time they actually mean something to the rest of the college football world...a chance to advance to the CFP...bumping out the 12th ranked team, probably an SEC team.

How crazy is that?

When you say "SEC might get screwed" what you mean is Alabama might get screwed. Cause y'all think Bama is the SEC. But, be forewarned. Reality is coming.

Great for the kids but would really suck for their opponent as the option is the polar opposite of modern defense.

Grow some fricking brain cells, pal. Alabama won't be in the top 12.

It is an oddity but Navy looked completely outclassed. Not only a loss but it looked bad as welll.

Navy got destroyed by Notre Dame. Even if they win out they would have to sweat being selected. If Army gets by Notre Dame (not an easy task, the Fighting Irish are one of the few teams that actually practices defending the flexbone) and wins the AAC title outright they are in no matter what happens in the Army/Navy game.

If Army loses to Notre Dame then Boise State is in unless they completely sh*t the bed down the home stretch.

True...but it could be Army.

The craziest part is them possibly playing on back to back weekends, with the first game determining the champion. The loser has nothing to play for the following weekend except pride and knocking the other out of the playoffs.

Most college football fans respect both Army and Navy. Those guys carry a legit class load, or at least used to, have sworn to protect their country, and in their spare time, play football.

You are worried about the SEC getting screwed?

They also don’t have a Shemar Turner on their Roster, instead, they have Letters of Recommendation from their congressmen.

C’mon Ag, say something else about Army/Navy.

The SEC shouldn't be affected. A 5th conference champ gets in and I doubt anyone else not named ND out there is ranked high enough at the end to be one of the 7 others that get in.

I am 99% sure the final CFP rankings come out after conference championships and before army-navy. So for all intents and purposes that second game won’t matter for CFP selection

You are chirping at the wrong guy.

Navy had a bad loss, late in the season, against presumable talent that they would see in the playoff. That hurts their chances.

Army is still in play.

The CFP is announced after the conference title games. An Army-Navy rematch will not factor in.

There are probably three SEC teams Army/Navy could beat: Arkansas, Mississippi State and Mizzou.

So yeah, I'd say Alabama would be one of those teams getting screwed, Ozark Gump.

They’ve been playing that game for pride for 100 years. Motivation won’t be a problem.

I was and still am against a 12 team playoff, (8 is perfect) but the chance of Army getting to play an actual playoff game is a pretty cool thing if I'm honest.

Except to the team that has to play them of course. No matter how much you outclass them with recruiting *'s beside individual player names, the flexbone is hard to defend unless you practice for it more than just the week before. It can upset the balance of your entire defense and even change the usual starting lineup.

Even so, I'd love to see Army (Navy just got destroyed by a meh golden domer team) get something other than a post season toilet bowl.

I’d rather see Army or Navy in than a 4th place SEC team. Those kids deserve it.

Army and Navy playing twice in back-to-back weekends will have no effect on the SEC getting an extra team in the playoff.

First of all, Navy is out. They have no chance to be the highest ranked minor conference team after that drubbing. (OBTW, they were able to move the ball on ND, but they made a ton of very uncharacteristic mistakes.)

Army could get in, but it will require a win over ND and some help from someone knocking Boise State out. A win over Navy won't look as good now.

I personally think the committee will do everything they can to exclude Army. They don't want to have Army lose to Navy in the second game right before their playoff game. So, they might pick Army over a 2-loss Boise St, but they aren't going to give them both a spot.

ND is the team that could take a spot away from the SEC if they win out. And, their schedule is soft, so they will be favored to do so.

Bottom Line: An Army win over ND would be helpful to the SEC.

Full disclosure: my son is a 2019 Navy grad who has thought this whole thing out.

GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY!
GEAUX TIGERS!
