True rankings can be found on betting sites. You'll always find the real truth of what the smartest people think when you track Vegas odds. And obviously the smartest people think different than the committee.

No. Probably less true with baseball bc there are so many casuals but this is an extremely lazy take. Vegas does have formulas but that’s not 100 percent of the equation. Part of the equation is perception equals reality. If 90 percent of betting public thinks team a is better than team b then it affects the odds. Even if the oddsmakers think team b is better. Odds aren’t laid out as rankings they are laid out based on how much money they can make off your perception of the teams a plus how good oddsmakers think teams are.

Vegas and seeding committees are not trying to achieve the same thing.

Vegas factors in potential betting action into their formulas and they are more concerned with who they think is the "better" team.

The committee is more concerned with who's most deserving based on the body of work. I'm not saying they got it right but they will never mimic what Vegas thinks.

You seem to not understand or comprehend what Vandyrone explained. Saying, "...well Vegas makes money..." doesn't address the specifics of the futures market you presented. Stay away from the oven.

It doesn’t matter!!!!

I love LSU’s regional and pairing with Clemson far better than Auburns pairing with Coastal and Florida and Arkansas’ pairing with Tennessee.

Yeah... apart from hosting the numerical seed doesn't really matter. Baseball is a little different in that they use other stuff to factor in matchups, etc. Auburn being (4) doesn't mean they have the 4th easiest path to Omaha. It's more about fitting puzzle pieces together then it is making sure the 1 seed has the 32 and 33 teams in their bracket and the 16 and 17 teams across the Super Regional line.

We all knew Auburn was going to get a national seed and host based on their resume and computer metrics. The fact that they are 4 instead of 5-8 probably has more to do with the other 7 teams they are paired against then it does a true ranking. Same with LSU and other schools.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I made a little on Florida in hoops & Rory winning the Masters. One of these 2 could make for a nice Spring

How about data on actual games played?

It is far easier to have a better record when you play lesser quality opponents.

I’m ready for our AI overlords to start determining playoff, NCAA tournament, and regional seeds.

The good ole boy system with select athletic directors getting a say is for the birds.

as opposed to voters with a hand out like the good old days?

Selection committees today use data on games played to determine their choices. With this many teams involved, it is hard to get it correct across the board. It is far better than it used to be though.

Auburn definitely didn't deserve the 4 seed. Got very lucky and Oregon got screwed.

Remember the old days? If an SEC team wasn’t hosting we’d get sent to Stanford or Arizona or Fullerton?

I bet they haven't picked any of the last 5 champions with maybe exception of lsu. It's a crapshoot. It always is.
