They don't have an AD any longer, either, correct?
Implications? Thoughts?

Vandy will be fine if they don't have athletics.

Vandy doesn't care about sports... it's all about the books.
Their last AD found that out pretty fast and resigned in less than a year.

Sucks for their baseball program if they’re going to start phasing sports out. They’re a legit great modern program.
ETA: and of course women’s bowling. College are a place where people come to get an education and prepare for the world. Not sure why intellectuals insist that stop at sports and physical talent and knowledge. College athletes are preparing for their careers just like the rest of us but are for some reason looked down upon for it being a sport rather than a skill solely dependent on the mind.

Yeah well....will they still take their $30 mil. + SEC revenue sharing check ????

I used a lawyer several years ago. I was concerned when I saw an Alabama diploma on the wall, but then saw it was undergrad and his law degree was from Vanderbilt. He won a difficult civil case for me.

They're private and the school has a communications department for the University.
Nothing really changes except for the people who worked in it.

Does this mean the SEC might have an opening in a few years?

It just seems that piece by piece they're dismantling their athletic department.

Vandy is seeing the future
We have seen how coach’s like Saban are playing politics and causing so much division in the county
The ncaa should make it a rule no players and especially coaches can play politics
This division will now spread worse than the virus it self !!

They can just keep cashing the checks without having to invest in being competitive. Don't have a rabid fan base or big money donors (who care about sports) to keep them honest. Pretty sweet deal if you can get it.

Vandy has wised up to the fact that they can collect 1/15th of SEC revenue while making no attempt to actually compete in any of the major revenue sports.
The James Franklin scandal with the 4 Vandy football players charged with rape was pretty much the nail in the coffin. Vandy admins are not going to allow athletics to have the autonomy it needs to compete in an athletic conference that has a wildly different vision for the role of athletics on a campus.
For people who say that the SEC would be crazy to kick out Vandy, Vandy has already quit the SEC. They just live here rent free while collecting their check.

Alabama has a tier 1 law school fwiw. Additionally, I know plenty of attorneys from the Vandys of the world that suck at their jobs. Having a good GPA in undergrad and high LSAT score to get into a place like Vandy doesn't mean you'll be a good litigator or attorney in general.

I think this is much to do about nothing. Remember in 2003 when Vandy was "eliminating its athletic department?" By being a department like Arts and Sciences, Vandy sports can legally get money from Vanderbilt's massive endowment. They'll never win the Sears Cup, but look what has happened with the baseball program and how many (albeit small) bowls the football team has played in.
Honestly, Vandy's administration has always tried to show sports who is boss going back to the 1950's. This is just paper shuffling.

???? Alabama is the 2nd best law school in the SEC

It's too bad the SEC can't tell them that at the very least a percentage of that $$ they're just sitting back and collecting without any return on the $ has to be reinvested in their athletic department.

They have more National Championships in a Big 3 sport than some of the other members. And in recent memory.

Would you trade Vandy and Missouri for Va Tech and NC State?

Yeah. But Alabama fans are the 2nd worst in the SEC. Too bad you didn't see the subtle humor in my post.
