1. Georgia- Points out Beck has some distance now between the other two, but says it still may carry on into the season for ulterior purposes.

2. Bama- points out Bama often changes coordinators. Says Bama's QB comp. will continue on for the obvious purpose.

3. Tennessee- Kind of non chalk here taking them over LSU. Says defense is the biggest question mark trying to improve upon a 127th ranking in passing yards per game allowed.

4. LSU- Wonders if the five starter returning Oline will gel enough that Kelly would contemplate playing Nussmeier over Daniels. Allowed more than 3 sacks per game last year. Only 9 power five schools were worse.

5. Aggie- Interestingly, doesn't even consider that A&M might have a good offense. Asks if the defense can force turnovers and give a sub par offense a chance. Points for not having the obvious take here.

6. Ole Miss- says they have the most crowded QB room. I'm not really sure why he'd say that. It'd make sense if he thought any of the three could start, but says Howard is likely a year away before being ready. That makes it a two man race which several schools have. So why is it the most crowded?

7. Kentucky- Nothing astonishing here. Can Leary and Coen make the Cats at least average on offense?

8. Arkansas- Can new DC make them better with only four starters returning on that side?

9. South Carolina- Wonders if the Oline can improve. Wonders if the transfer portal will give them good edge rushers. Then doesn't mention any incoming transfer edge rushers, only outgoing transfer edge rushers.

10. Mississippi State- Wonders how the offense will evolve without Leach. Shockingly predicts more rushing. Who would've thought?

11. Florida- Will the new DC put out a top notch D in his first year? (After that spring game what else can you say positively?) Also wonders if Napier will have the second year magic he showed at LA Laf.

12. Auburn- How fast can Freeze turn around Auburn football? Particularly, how fast can the offense turn around? Auburn hasn't ranked in the top 5 in the conference in YPP on offense since 2014. (That stat kind of shocked me considering how good they looked at the end of 2017.)

13. Mizzou- According to him, this may be a legit 3 QB race for starter in the fall.

14. Vandy- Still has them in the cellar, but thinks they may climb out since they improved last year. Sees a possible upset of Mizzou and/or Auburn.

2014 was where Gus's offense peaked and apparently also when he decided he wasn't going to adapt.

Don't know if you know or don't. Maybe you're a young squirt and just picked out a laughing gif.

But I don't think that particular scene and his laugh is what you think it is.

If you do know, is it the way you feel after Arkansas spring practice?

Technically, that's incorrect. That was in the subject line. So the fact you clicked to post says you went further.

This is not my wonder at all. Oline is fine on the starting five. They geled fine.

Daniels is the starter and will be better than last year. Nuss will be too but this line doesn’t need to “gel” for Nuss to start.

Also Florida too low.

The secondary is getting a huge upgrade. Arkansas defense will be better undoubtedly.

How can this writer rank anyone? Unless this guy attended every practice at every school then how can this writer accurately rank any SEC school.

You learn nothing from watching these spring games. Teams are very basic and vanilla on purpose. Most of the time it’s no contact to key players. The full team for the 2023-24 season isn’t even on campus because some incoming Freshman that may be key contributors will not report till later this summer. Some teams may even pick up a transfer or two. Sportswriters putting out an article like this right now is a total waste of time.

How many years is this sort of thing going to go on? If they keep ranking them high preseason eventually they will get it right I suppose.

What does age have to do with it? Everyone has a right to respond. Nothing wrong with the picture.
With the transfer portal, players leaving one program for another, new coaches and coordinators spring practice is no longer a gauge on how a team will do during the season.
I agree with others in that USA Today does not have a clue what's going on.

Agreed. He definitely whiffed on the true concerns at LSU. Shocking that a reporter from a quality media outlet like USA Today wouldn't know his stuff.

The gif is from a movie. An old one. Heston's laughter isn't comedic laughter. It's mad/insane laughter after realizing his world has turned upside down.

It was not meant to say he doesn't have a right to share his feelings due to age. It was wondering if he even understands where the gif came from and why the character was laughing. Maybe you haven't seen it either.

The USA Today might as well be a HS newspaper at this point.

Quick rant: it feels like every offseason, every media outlet predicts Mizzou to finish between 12th and last in the conference. But in 10 SEC seasons, Mizzou has only finished 12th or lower twice (2015 and 2016). We've won our division as often as we've finished last. We suck, but we don't usually suck that much. We're just underachieving and irrelevant, not pre or post James Franklin Vanderbilt.

Two biggest concerns at LSU have to be lack of depth/cohesiveness in the defensive backfield and the kicking game.

Just my take. But everyone is fairly close in that tier above Vandy and it usually has four or so teams in it. At that point they probably are looking at recruiting ranking talent as much as anything else.

And I guess no mention or acknowledgment that LSU had to play not one, but two true freshman at OT…
