And that's the best reason of all not to use your dumb metric. It's not the way it was done back then with bowl tie ins so there is no legitimate reason whatsoever to punish the schools other than just being a plain old douche bag about it. The number is 13 and that's as legit as it gets.

Some joker added 5 in the late 80s randomly to the legit 6 we had and a bunch of retards in Bamas propaganda office ran with it.

Too deep in to change the tally now. The claims like ‘41 started when we were losing relevancy and the admin and fans were clinging to history a little too tightly. Almost like a tax, it’s on the books now and they’re not going away.
We have a whole pile of titles, take some away, add some in, whatever. Not like it matters. Though that ‘41 claim is really embarrassing.

If you talk to me, I usually just stick with poll titles. Legacy (Retro) titles are hard to quantify and that 1941 claim from the guy who did the media guide ages ago is an eyesore.
I'm sure people will point to my signature, and as I've explained a billion times - that's the "if Alabama claimed as many titles as Alabama does" (playing on when other schools make the same statement). Someone awarded Alabama a title in 31 different seasons.
These are the legit titles (AP, UPI, BCS and CFP):
1961, 1964, 1965 (AP), 1973 (Coaches), 1978 (AP), 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2020
I find the criteria "#1 had to play #2" to be an odd one, considering that nothing required that prior to 1992 - and even then, it wasn't really enforced until much later. Miami could have ducked Alabama, played a weaker opponent at the end of the 1992 season. Per Chicken, if they lose that game and Alabama moves to #1 anyway it's no longer a "valid title".
I'm sure the fact that it invalidates one LSU title and several Alabama ones played no part in his logic

Turning college football into a beauty contest for 125 years was the joke. And a bad one. 125 years and college football couldn't figure out how to crown a legitimate champion on the field. They had it figured out for golf, basketball, baseball, swimming, track-and-field, just not college football.
The only thing bogus in that timeframe were the people who continued to sit in those backrooms pimping the game and bowl season for 125 years.

17 national championships.
None of them are questionable. 17 of them are legit, 1 of them(1941) is just plain bad.

There's an actual article from the 80s where some egghead admitted to making them up and adding them to the university totals but whatever. Claiming those non legit titles gives people ammo to discredit some of the legit 13.

Guys, just roll with it. I stopped arguing with them years ago and just did what they accuse us of doing - claim every championship any entity has ever awarded us. I've lost count, but we have to be getting close to 30 NC's now. They love it if you add them to your sig. You could be discussing anything, and an LSU fan will change the subject to talk about all of our NC's. It's fun.
