Do you really think the Alabama mens water polo team is going to get endorsement money from this? This is for the football and mens basketball teams only. And only a few of them.
Yeah the Ca congresswoman who initiated the bill said that this will allow women to finally get the recognition and rewards they deserve. Or something to that effect. If only anyone (besides the player's families) gave one good goddamn about women's sports (other than the USW soccer)

I don't think that your scenario is absurd.
What IS absurd is the notion that we need to throw the baby out with the bathwater over hypotheticals, AND that we need to forcefully accomplish this folly with state legislation.

The transfer portal will explode. A player can school shop strictly for more money. People are looking at this through today's eyes. Where will anything be in 3 years, how much change will have occurred?

Well then do something else. Give that football up. Simple. Back when I was 17/18 we joined the Army and shipped overseas to a nasty little country where all E-3's got paid about about $90. a month. Plus combat pay best I remember of $65. I slept in the barracks under a sheet but on a cot while the poor SOB who drew field duty slept on the ground and took a crap in a ditch. He still got the same $90. and 65.
There were no hot shots demanding more. For the simple reason they would have got more all right but it wouldn't have been the "more" they had in mind. LOL @ fricking titty baby college athletes! But it was worth it. We got a university job and $200. a month in G.I. bill money later. And most went on to great lives and great retirements and would hold you little fart blossoms in disdain. Feeling like and getting everything done for them is why many ex-athletes can't pour pizz out of a boot when faced with reality. But, but, but I was a three year starter. Well start your butt up and get out there and sell something today hotshot. That will fly.

The majority are financing a large part of their tuition...
Stick to football. No one cares about baseball, softball, water polo teams not being able to award full scholarships

Has anyone even mentioned/considered that pesky little Federal law named Title IX?
If you don't think it will be modified to include all sports, oh well...

Suppose the casinos here in B.R. start paying LSU players to be in their commercials.Do we want to open that door? Crown Royal. Plaintiff attys putting players' images on their billboards. And do not think the Morris Barts of the world won't go there. A politician's ads during an election campaign?

Irrelevant if we're just talking about Tua doing a TV commercial or signing autographs at the mall.

It’s a can of worms we cannot open. Or limit it to $200 per promotion. So it’s just some mailbox money.

Once you sign an endorsement deal, your only option is to play professional sports. Then the question is... where do you play professionally when the nfl has illegal rules discriminating against 18, 19, and 20 year old kids for the sake of benefitting older, richer people (see the nflpa)
Wrong. If a company pays you for an “endorsement”, they are taking a risk that you will become an “NFL” player. They can’t force you into the NFL and they can’t force a player to take the endorsement deal.

That’s not for the NCAA to control.

Thank you for your service James.
But it’s not 1916.
Yugely different times.

The continuous slamming the NCAA is stupid. Do you realize what NCAA is and who they're governed by. The schools are the NCAA and are governed by representatives of the schools. All of you dumb shits that keep on giving the NCAA hell sound like you think it is governed by some private organization.

Your college also didn’t cost 30k+/semester. Rent on an apartment was far cheaper, the dollar stretched a lot further than it does now.
Also, the old farts back when you were in college bitched about the way you were doing things much as you are bitching about the way kids are doing today. Back then they said “when I was 18 I was already married with 3 kids working my farm. I got up at sunrise and went to bed at sunset and I worked the fields the entire day. We didn’t need no college education”.
It is the way of things. The older generation never understands the needs and wants of the young generation.
