Actually, I thought UGA got pretty lucky that at least one OL and eventually a DL were total idiots on a couple of penalties. That really helped UGA, and then also had a QB that just flat out missed guys wide open due to pretty good play calling. You can call it coaching all you want, but in the end the players didn’t make the plays or the right decisions. And when your depth isn’t all that, you can’t just yank a guy due to being a dumbass. Granted a coach is making a ton of money, but now that certain players are also likely making good money, I feel less bad about calling them out for poor decisions as well.

So you didn't watch the video.
Watched it starting at 5:40, just like was recommended.
Uncle Lou asks where the money is going. Well, it's going where the law requires it to go, for starters. 50% of it, by law, has to go to women's sports, and they are almost to a player money losers unless your are UConn.
Then you have the NCAA requirements. In order for a program to qualify as a NCAA Division 1 program you have to have, essentially, 26 sports - TWENTY SIX. Men's tennis, golf, bass fishing, etc. probably isn't making you any money. Football, if - IF - it's making you any money is subsidizing possibly 25 other programs, maybe more.
I could go on but I'm telling you
College athletics HEMORRHAGES money and larger and larger TV contracts aren't going to change that unless the fundamental model changes.

I'm still wondering when we get our cut.
Taxpayers donated the lands and funds to build these universities, and bankrolled them.
The sports teams of the universities only make money because they belong to the institutions we funded. Otherwise they'd be less profitable than the XFL, etc.
So when can the citizens of the states expect to get a cut of the revenue?

They get to brag about their team.
No different than the losers in this board who get their value from a bunch of overgrown children playing a game.

It’s everywhere. Every business, organization, corporation, etc is looking for ways to squeeze more money out of consumers. As long as people keep paying and profits keep rising, they’ll keep doing it.
Capitalism is greater economic driver of innovation in the history of mankind, but it also cultivates greed. Still better than any alternative, but until the populace is educated enough to think critically with where they put their money, these problems will continue.

Well the cost of doing business has gone up ab 30% w/ NIL, where do you think Universities, particularly athletic departments, get their money from?

CFB, the only sport where you have to bribe a kid to come to your school and then pretend like he cares about your school.
It just prepares them to go to the NFL and do the same thing regarding your team/city.

The University system in the US (public and private) is built on begging for money. Not just for sports, but for everything.
You pay to go to a school.
Then they beg you to join the alumni association (pay money to the university after you are done attending school).
Individual schools within the university beg you to join specific alumni associations (even more money to the school).
Then they beg alumni members to donate even more money to the university (endowments).
Does it really surprise anyone that they beg for money to improve athletics too?

Besides buying tickets/concession food & drink, I don't give a dime
Posted on 10/12/23 at 9:26 am to gamecockman12
i saw on twitter a few gamecock fans trying to figure out how to increase NIL. one wanted to have a "round up" button at concessions to donate to NIL.
No...honestly no. College sports are going to kill themselves because honestly the cost of everything is too high. The die hards will hang on, but the average fan will quit going, and then disassociate themselves.

I donate money for the ability to buy tickets, I pay for tickets. On top of this I am charged a "seat fee" for each seat( dealer gouge) and I pay the university for parking. They are not getting another dime from me.

University athletic associations are tax shelters. Every penny of profit from athletics should be used to defray the cost of operating the university or it should be taxed just like any other business.

Who wants to keep kicking more money into a diminishing product. NIL has effectively ruined college athletics and I find myself less and less interested with each passing year.
Absolutely the truth and you took the words right out of my mouth. I've been saying for years now, actually decades, that when you pay college athletes who are suppose to be playing an amateur sport into a greedy professional money hungry sport then then the end is near. It has made me sick over the years to hear so many people say college atletes should be "PAID". Hey, isn't a $25000 a year free education with all the perks good enough, for goodness sakes. But this is America, and all that people think about, $$$$$. Still love CFB with all the rah-rah, pride, and sectionalism, but I'm slowly losing interest. The NFL died to me years ago with nothing but talk of money, money, money..... Same with all pro sports.
