To each his own, right? Pull in +$7million/year winning at the highest level of college ball in the best conference in the country and see if you enjoy it first.

What good is money when you never have time to spend it and you’re still working 100 hours a week at 70+?

No thanks.

What HC isn't a well rounded citizen in this conference? Every HC in the SEC gives time & resources to their community and the town they coach in + their outside charities get large funds and attention as well. IMO that makes a good citizen.

Being charitable is part of being a celebrity when your public image matters. Not that any SEC coaches aren’t good people, of course, but even if deep down they didn’t give a shite about any community causes they would still do these things.

But what I meant by well-rounded was people who have good general knowledge of current events, pop culture, etc. You think Nick Saban has read a novel anytime recently? Could name George H.W. Bush’s Vice President? Knows what the tallest building in the world is? Gives a shite what’s going on in Ukraine?

My point is not so much to be critical as simply saying that big time football coaches probably know less about the world than most self-made millionaires because their focus is so singular and affected by few external factors.

Nick Saban talked about retirement as if he couldn’t find shite else to do if there were no football. It’s one thing to still want to coach but there’s nothing else you could find fulfilling if you couldn’t coach? Life would be an abyss? That part I find a little sad.

On the surface, none of this is very logical. I've joked many times on this board about taking a fat multi-million-dollar coaching contract and then disappearing afterwards.

But in reality, I honestly couldn't really say I would actually do that, given the opportunities these guys have.

I know several high school and D1 (some current and former SEC) coaches, and without fail, every single one is addicted to what they do. And as a result, they tend to be really, really good at it.

Some people are wired that way, whether it be football, running a business, or even leisure activities. When they find what they love, that's all they want to do, and there is a huge void when it's gone, especially if it's not by choice.

It doesn't mean they don't care about other things (and generally, I think they do), it's just who they are.

I don’t think it’s very much about the money with Saban and people like him. No offense intended but just because you are a high school coach doesn’t mean that you can relate to those guys drive and motivation.

It isn’t only some coaches that are obsessed with work. Plenty of people in all professions are the same way. You and i just aren’t among them.

Football is Coach Saban's hobby, it is not a job for him

53 coaches have come and gone at 13 SEC schools since January 3, 2007

The article I pasted that from listed all coaches at those schools, including the current ones.

I guess you could subtract those out if you wanted to arrive at the number that have actually left—maybe 40 (not including interim coaches)?

5 years later, Saban retires. His record against LSU during that time was 5-0.

UGA was a lot closer to the 2017 NC than AL was to the 2021 NC

Our WR left so he could get more playing time. Too many other great receivers at UGA and they rotate.
Get over it Bama. You lost when it mattered. You Blew it! And all the petty whining in the world isn’t going to change anything. Your coach is getting older and as he said himself - Georgia kicked our asses! Better get use to it. Georgia finally got over the hump and they are going to be the king of the SEC now. Not Saban and Bama. Gonna be fun listening to all the excuse making and whining that’s going to be coming out of Tuscaloosa

My favorite was recently when a Georgia fan claimed they were going to be the new dynasty, and that Alabama's loss was a clear sign of it.

Then turned around and claimed that if Georgia didn't win it next year he wouldn't be surprised because they are coming off a Championship year and it was tough to repeat.

Bama did not win the NC EVERY year and UGA isn’t likely to either. But we will win several more in the coming decade. Too bad Bama is on a decline just as UGA is in the beginning of a new dynasty.

I guess we found the dumbass who said it.

And you still haven't figured out Alabama won the National Championship the year prior and it would have been back to back if they won.
