Since you don't live an isolated existence I am sure you notice how many coaches stay in the business life long.

I’ve been a high school football coach for 20 years, but it doesn’t consume my life and I would never want to commit the hours that college coaches do. IMO, there’s too many interesting things in this world to spend 24/7/365 on football - or any one thing.

Head coaches that are let go, making millions per year not to coach, will take assistant coaching jobs just to stay in the game. Why do they do that? Probably because they love it so much they nearly have to. To each his own opinion, but I think it would be awesome if every man loved his job that much, plus make tons of money doing it.

I think it would be awesome if every man worked hard at their job but allowed himself time to be a well-rounded citizen.

Trouble sleeping more like trouble worrying about beating Jimbo and Kirby.

I knew A&M should have just let him win so his crotchety arse would retire.

Does anyone believe that Saban will give much of an advance notice when he retires? I cannot imagine he will go on a retirement tour to receive rocking chairs from LSU and UT.

He’s always going to say this and it has no bearing on when he’s actually going to retire. If he said, “I’m going to retire in a couple of years” then the entire SEC would be negative recruiting against alabama.

The announcement will come suddenly after the season of whichever he chooses. There won’t be any warnings.

The only reasonable post on this thread. This is it. Saban will retire and we wont know it until after NSD. Only way this doesn't happen if there is a very public succession plan (i.e., Bowden --> jimbo)

Since that game Bama has won a National Championship, 2 SEC championships, and have lost a total of 4 games, 2 of those games being to that year's National Champion.

Muh decline.

And another Heisman. Yeah pretty much destroyed everyone in CFB in 2020

To each his own, right?
Pull in +$7million/year winning at the highest level of college ball in the best conference in the country and see if you enjoy it first.

What HC isn't a well rounded citizen in this conference? Every HC in the SEC gives time & resources to their community and the town they coach in + their outside charities get large funds and attention as well. IMO that makes a good citizen.

Why should we do that? It’s way too much fun beating him.

Well hell yeah! When you do it about one time in ten, I'm sure it is fun.

He’s going to do just like Bear. Coach until he’s too sick and then pass away.

I mean, it’s not going to happen. But how do you think the Bama fan base would react if he went 8-4 in back to back seasons at this point?

At this point in his career, he doesn't strike me as the type of guy to hang around after back-to-back miserable seasons, assuming he saw no reasonable chance to improve.

In other words, I don't think we'd have to worry about a prolonged Bowden/Paterno situation.

He'd probably take a position as AD, get on some CFB rules committee, or even venture into television before he dragged it out, IMO.

You say that, but the three winningest coaches in college football (Paterno, Robinson, Bowden) all coached longer than they should've and finished their careers with bad seasons, or in Paterno's case, scandal and total loss of control of the program.

The odds say the same thing will happen to Saban, but I cant get my head around him staying too long.
