Even if they refused to moved, you don’t fire the cannon.

Foolish if TAM. But it’s who they are.

A&M has a history of ignoring the safety of students…

Sounds to me like the player was warned but didn’t listen. Like when my wife talks to me.

One observation on the commandant's reply....

Cannon is spelled with two "n's"...

now on the firing of the cannon...LSU fires a M-120 75mm pack howitzer when the team takes the field...the tube is elevated to about 800 mils (45 degrees) and a safety zone is roped off and cleared out

Ole Miss has one that they fire from the northeast corner of the Vaught from the student section...again elevated to 800 mils and high enough and far enough back to be safely fired

Aggies have a M-1903 3 inch field gun (basically fires the same blank as the 75mm pack that LSU has), the gun is on field level BUT the tube isn't elevated and their safety precautions aren't as strict...

an addition is built into the stadium to house the cannon and crew, away from the field, players, and fans, where the possibility of passers-by getting in the way is essentially zero. Perhaps an elevated platform somewhere.

There's a HS in our area (St Amant) that does exactly this, the cannon is away from the field on a platform. Seems like a reasonable concession to make. That thing is loud as hell, it doesn't need to be right there on the field near the endzone to be heard or to see the smoke.

I would be embarrassed for my team if they did this. Instead the Aggies double down and say, “we warned them, they should’ve moved”, or, “who kneels down in front of a cannon?”

Even if there were a warning, you still wait for them to move before firing it. But I figured those cocksuckers were lying. A&M really brings the image of the SEC down.

The jury is still out on that. The grand jury, that is. It is still an ongoing investigation. There were rumors about a month ago Baldwin may be indicted. Time will tell.

Can we kick A&M out of the conference?

They are simply the worst.

So…is A&M claiming “we warned them” before INTENTIONALLY setting it off in their faces?!?

That is far worse than accidentally discharging it without knowing what is in the path…

You wouldn't, but you're an Aggie, so logic goes out the window.

There's the fallacy in your argument.

Aggies are not "professional" soldiers.

No more than actors putting on a costume are.

this isn't a mistake that gets a do-over. And the cadets who fired it, and the corps leadership who built a culture that allowed students to actually think it was ok to fire at that moment all need to be held accountable.

I’m an AD unit commander currently, in a unit that uses blanks during training. There are rules regarding proximity that are not violated without follow-on corrective actions.

You do not simply disregard safety in the military simply because “we warned them.”
