All for a coach that has to sneak into the playoffs twice without winning his own division

He took Sherrer from UGA, which might maybe a little effect OLB recruiting this class because he was their primary recruiter but Smart and Tucker still run the defense and are still here . Am I missing someone else?

Forgot Rocker had been relieved of duties.

I guess that's it then. Sucks that we are only getting an OLB recruiter :(

Sherrer is a good coach. He'll definitely help along with Pruitt to increase the talent there. Don't know how much damage is going to be done early with the early signing period looming, but the 2019 class I'm sure they'll battle us successfully for a guy here or there at least. Rocker is good with guys if you can get them on campus, but someone else is going to have to secure the recruits in all likelihood... he's not here any longer for a reason.

Rocker is a far better coach than he is a recruiter.

He was burning bridges for UGA on the recruiting trail and had to go. He's got a temper that puts out small fires with gasoline (not a good look for momma).

Sherrer is a stud recruiter. We have had good play from our OLB. But our leader in sacks is an ILB with 5.5. We never had the OLB gaudy numbers with Sherrer like we had with Grantham.

No. He wasn’t. And the way you’ll discover
this to be the case is when it’s announced how much they settle for with him.

How do you know how good his staff will be with him as a first year hc?

Up to this point:

Position -- Coach -- Previous stop + position

OC/QB – Tyson Helton (Co OC/PGC @ USCw)
RB – Robert Gillespie (UT -- retained by Pruitt)
OL – Will Friend (OC CSU)
TE –
WR --

Defense:

DC/ILB – Kevin Sherrer (LB UGA)
DL – Tracy Rocker (DL UGA from 14 thru 16)
OLB/DE – Chris Rumph (DL UF)
DBs – Terry Fair (DBs CSU) + Pruitt

Will Friend is considered a better recruiter than he was a coach as well. He should be better than when he was at UGA (more experience), but the consensus was that he was in over his head at the SEC level.

The Will Friend move is weird.

He’s an excellent ol coach and recruiter but making a downward move from OC to OL signals there may be trouble in CSU for Bobo.

You are the only person OTB that has said he’s a better recruiter than a coach. Most Dawgs have said he’s a very good coach but his choice of lineman weren’t really suited for the team once he left.

My initial reaction to reading your responses is that your coming off salty more than your coming off informative.

Will Friend was the OC behind the #10 overall total offense in the country this season. Pairing him with Tyson Helton who was a part of the #15 overall Total Offense this season should be a major uptick from Larry Scott.

I really don't know how much to read into Friend at UGA. Richt was on record as saying many times that he just didn't think an elite OL was critical for success (referencing his time at FSU where they literally just had skill players coming out of all orifices...). Hard to say how much of any perceived OL problems were top down vs Friend's direct cause...

As to deeprig's comment, could see OC @ CSU as being the "in name only" sort of gig under Bobo. Coupled with Pruitt being his college roommate and UT probably paying more for an OL coach than CSU pays their OC... not necessarily sign of bad things to come, but certainly not doing Mike any damn favors.

CSU fans seem to be restless with him, and if he doesn’t win the MWC next year he’s gone.

VOLS were right again, Bobo sucks

This would be a major uptick from Larry Scott as an OC.

I've never seen Helton described as Co-OC at USCw.

Bobo wouldn't have been a good hire for UT IMO. I'm not sure about Pruitt either, but I'd rather roll the dice with him than Bobo.

Agreed... even their own site doesn't reference that. He was QB Coach and PGC... though it could be argued that PGC is a glorified name for Co-OC I suppose... LINK
